While the return of a 4v4 format is certainly positive news, there will be no new franchises joining the CDL for its second season.

According to ESPN, the Call of Duty League is focusing on opportunities which were put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The goal is to expand in 2022, with reports of several parties interested in buying a franchise spot in the league. For the first season, franchise spots were being sold at $25 million and is expected to exceed $30 million when negotiations begin in the Summer of 2021.

For now, the league will remain at 12 franchises for season two, but with the return of a 4v4 team structure, several players could well be out of a job by the time the new season begins.
