In an unprecedented new video posted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, we get a detailed look at the internals of the PS5, as well as full details of its available ports.

The video, hosted by VP of the Mechanical Design Department at Sony Interactive Entertainment Yasuhiro Ootori, goes far beyond what usual 'inside looks' cover.

Taking apart a Standard Edition of the PS5 console - the one with the disc drive - shows you how to carefully remove the plastic cover - something that has been wondered about on social media since the console's unique design was revealed.

Owners can get inside the console by popping and sliding open the cover from opposite corners, revealing that most components - such as the fan and the Blu-Ray drive, can actually be removed relatively easily.

We also get a look at the cooling system, much vaunted following Japanese media's hands-on with the console in the last few days. Claiming that the console is 'almost silent', we see in this video that the PS5 also has liquid metal ccoling to go alongside the usual fan/heatsink combo.

Naturally, you shouldn't immediately open up and disassemble your PS5 as soon as you buy it, because that will surely invalidate your warranty — not recommended for a machine so expensive!

We can see now why the console needs to be so large, with the components somehow placed in a way that makes the internals look as sleek as the exterior.

Overall, it's a fascinating look into the design process for a console that is Sony's most powerful yet.

The PlayStation 5 hits stores on November 12, with preorders now open.
