Here we are already in July and the potterheads have never been so close to the goal: to be able to explore Hogwarts in every corner, embody a wizard and enjoy exceptional graphics thanks to Hogwarts Legacy. Yes, but why don't we still have a release date? Should we be worried or just wait?
God of War finally announces its release date, soon the turn of Hogwarts Legacy?
This Wednesday, July 6, 2022, Santa Monica and Sony finally announced the release date for the most anticipated game of the year: God of War Ragnarok. A date that many players but also publishers were impatiently awaiting in order to organize the end of 2022 as it should. Sometimes to know the different editions available and the purchase to prioritize for Christmas on the player side, sometimes to know when to release your own game on the publisher side. Right after the announcement, Square Enix has also decided to postpone, once again, its open-world RPG Forspoken. In an official statement, it is openly said that this postponement is carried out for "strategic reasons".
In all transparency, Square Enix therefore seems to be saying that a too early release date for God of War would have undermined the marketing of Forspoken. But... What if this postponement had been made not for the rest of the adventures of Kratos and Atreus but rather to make room for our dear Hogwarts Legacy?
Initially scheduled for October 11, 2022, Forspoken will finally be released on January 24, 2023, leaving a hole in the October release schedule . If we are only talking about "big games" for the end of the year, here is the current schedule between October and December:
- October 4 : Overwatch 2
- October 18 : Call of Duty Warzone and A Plague Tale Requiem
- October 25 : Gotham Knights
- October 28 : Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
- November 9 : God of War Ragnarok
- November 18 : Pokémon Scarlet and Purple
-
(Sonic Frontiers, no date announced yet)
With a considerable number of postponements like Forspoken, STALKER 2 or even Starfield for 2023, the end of the year can still welcome Hogwarts Legacy , there is not too much doubt. Always scheduled for "Holliday 2022", we now need to know if the Harry Potter RPG will be available in October, a good time for wizards with Halloween in particular, November or December. The last month of the year seems like the perfect candidate , especially since October is already occupied by one of Warner Bros. Games' games: Gotham Knights.
God of War releasing in early November, there's only one viable choice left for Hogwarts Legacy: December . A month that seems ideal, without any notable competitor, in order to find the game, in its collector's version or not, at the foot of the tree.
No risk of postponement then?
It seemed very unlikely. Hogwarts Legacy has already been postponed for the first time and communication around the title has greatly accelerated since the State of Play at the start of the year showing us fifteen minutes of breathtaking gameplay. The game seems ready, although some bugs are still being fixed. Not a single week goes by without Warner Bros, Chandler Wood (the title's community manager) or Avalanche Software publishing an image, clip or piece of information about Hogwarts Legacy.
Recent communications still claim that the game will be released by the end of the year. So it's only a matter of time before the release date is revealed to us . This will likely happen during Sony's upcoming State of Play which has yet to be announced. A little more patience then. We should have the answer by the end of August!
