For the second year in a row, the Fortnite Summer Smash tournament will be held during the 2020 Australian Open on February 1-2. The tournament will be divided into two phases:
- Charity Pro-Am Duo on Saturday, with a $100,000 cash prize.
- A $400,000 Competitive Solos on Sunday.
Players from around the world will be invited to participate in the event. The tournament will take place a few hours before the Grand Slam final. At this time, the distribution of the prize pool and the games' format haven't been communicated.
A few facts about the event
- More than 1,500 Fortnite gamers from around Australia registered within 10 minutes for the chance to take part in qualifying for the competition.
- The top 20 from each heat will earn a place in the finals.
- 50 pro Fortnite gamers and 50 celebrities from Australia, Canada, China, Great Britain, Japan, Korea and the United States took part in the Pro-Am charity event.
- The event generated 11.3 million YouTube views as well as more than 100,000 consecutive views across all streamed channels.
