One of the more storied orgs in esports, FaZe Clan have recruited their first female pro player. Soleil 'EwOk' Wheeler, a 13-year-old deaf girl, joins their Fortnite roster.
She is not only the first girl to join FaZe Clan, but also the youngest. She's not unknown in the world of Fortnite, either; she is a successful streamer with over 200,000 followers on Twitch, and has played alongside the likes of DrLupo and TimTheTatman.
She is also one of the few female players to have played alongside Ninja — this coming after the star said last year that he wouldn't stream alongside female players.
EwOk also participated in the Fortnite World Cup this past weekend — she teamed up with singer and actor Jordan Fisher to win $20,000 for charity in the Pro-Am event on Friday.
Following her unveiling, she offered encouragement other disabled people to pursue their ambitions!
As with most Battle Royale games, sound is a key element of gameplay — revealing the location of opponents or from where you are being attacked.
However, Fortnite comes with a raft of accessibility options which make it much easier for players hard of hearing — icons appearing on screen that help guide players and reveal those crucial directions.
We're excited to see how EwOk performs under the FaZe umbrella, and how this enables more players with disabilities to come to the forefront of professional gaming!
