Engineering is one of the Crafting Trade Skills in Amazon's new MMO, New World.
There's no prerequisite to getting started with this skill, just take the ingots and other resources you've refined to a Workshop in a Settlement and off you go.
Be mindful that you'll need a higher level Workshop to refine higher quality gear, so make sure you visit a Settlement which has leveled up its workstations.
Is Engineering for me?
If you want to play a ranged class in New World, you'll need Engineering. As ammo isn't unlimited, you're constantly going to have to craft it often.
It's a profession which has perfect synergy with the Mining gathering skill, but it also relies on all the professions listed above for secondary resources in crafting weapons.
Where can I find my materials for engineering?
The majority of resources needed for Engineering recipes come from the Mining and Logging gathering skills. However, you'll also need wood and other materials, which are gathered from all the other professions. In particular, arrows require feathers, so you'd better get hunting those Turkeys.
Ultimately, it will be a drawn-out, expensive profession to max out, and may even require playing the Trading Post for materials you can't grind out (or don't have the patience for).
Engineering: Most notable items to craft
Quite simply, Arrows are your best choice when leveling Engineering. They're cheap in terms of resources, and all players who opt for the bow are going to need them. This way, you gain XP and could turn a nice little profit at the same time.
Another key item to craft is Proficiency Boosters, items that increases the amount of resources gathered with a tool for a limited period of time. These are ideal for power-farmers, and will likely prove valuable on the Trading Post.
As previously mentioned, this profession allows you to be a bit of a crafter for hire. Whether arrows, ammo for muskets, or Proficiency Boosters, you'll likely always be in demand.
