A refiining skill that will provide you with Ingots and other key resources for crafting, here's all you need to know about Smelting in Amazon's New World.

New World: Smelting Guide

Smelting is one of the Refining Skills in Amazon's new MMO, New World.

There's no prerequisite to getting started with this skill, just take the Ore you collect while mining in Aeternum a Smelter in a Settlement and off you go.

Be mindful that you'll need a higher level Smelter to refine higher quality Ores, so make sure you visit a Settlement which has leveled up its workstations.

Is Smelting for me?

Weaponsmithing and Armoring recipes in particular require a lot of different ores, with Heavy Armor and almost all weapons entirely dependent on the resource. There are also Engineering, Furnishing and Arcana recipes that require ore, so Smelting becomes a refining skill of great importance.

It's a profession which has perfect synergy with the Mining gathering skill, being the primary provider of ores for refining.

Where to find Flux for Smelting

You can obtain Flux for smelting ores in Supply Containers. This is a bit of a lottery as to how much and how often it drops, but as long as you're checking all crates while exploring you should pick up plenty.

You could also purchase it from the Trading Post, although this can quickly become a money sink. Given how easily it can be found with a little time, we wouldn't recommend this if the price seems high.

Should you find yourself in a bind, you can purchase Material Converters from your Faction Store. This one-time-use machine can be used at a Tier 3 or higher Smelter, and is a reagent in a recipe that converts a stack of another refining material into Flux.

  • Common Material Converter: Used with 20 Tier 3 Refining Materials to create 15 Sand Flux. Requires Smelting Skill Lv. 50, Smelter Tier 3.
  • Advanced Material Converter: Used with 20 Tier 4 Refining Materials to create 15 Shelldust Flux. Requires Smelting Skill Lv. 100, Smelter Tier 4.
  • Masterwork Material Converter: Used with 20 Tier 5 Refining Materials to create 15 Obsidian Flux. Requires Smelting Skill Lv. 150, Smelter Tier 5.
New World: Mining Guide

A gathering skill that will help you hunt down Ore and other key resources, here's all you need to know about Mining in Amazon's New World.

How to craft Voidbent Ingots

This Legendary-quality Ingot will be time-consuming to create even for master smelters (despite there being no Smelting skill requirement), but the weapons and armors crafted from it will be amongst the best in the game.

You'll have to get extremely lucky when Mining and Gathering for the raw materials to create Iron Ingots, so be prepared to farm an awful deal.

Here's what you'll need:

Void Ore

Found when mining Orichalcum Veins.

Void Ore requires Luck to drop when Mining, so you'll need to equip all the Luck-boosting buffs you can:

--The Starmetal Miner's Charm will increase luck when crafted into a Pickaxe.

-- Displaying a Major Mining Gathering Trophy in your home also significantly increases luck when Mining.

-- Roasted Potato dishes grant huge boosts to Luck when mining for a short period of time. Salted Roasted Potatoes offer the highest.

Void Essence

Found in Elite Ancient Chests (T3)

You'll want to head to elite areas with gear equipped that maximises your Luck.

For maximum effect, bake resources into your gear that adds the Luck perk. The best of these is Chunk of Adderstone, which gives a +2.8% chance of rare drops from chests.

You should also display a Loot Luck Trophy in your house, and consume food that boosts your Luck when searching chests.

Energy Core

Crafted at the Stonecutting Table.

Recipe

○ x1 Elemental Heart

- requires x50 each of Water, Earth, Fire & Air Motes

○ x1 Eternal Heart

- requires x50 each of Death, Life, & Soul Motes.

Requires Stonecutting Skill Lv. 50 and Stonecutting Table Tier 3.

How to craft Asmodeum

Much like the Voidbent Ingot, this is a Legendary-quality resource that will take significant time to create.

Apply every buff you can to increase your Luck when farming for these materials.

Orichalcum Ingot

Obtained through Smelting.

Recipe

○ x8 Orichalcum Ore
○ x2 Starmetal Ingot
○ 1x Flux
○ x2 Charcoal

Requires Smelting Skill Lv. 150 and Smelter Tier 5.

Tolvium

Rare drop from Orichalcum Veins.

Like all Tier 5 resources, you'll need a ton of Luck.

Craft the Starmetal Miner's Charm into your Pickaxe, display a Mining Gathering Trophy in your house, and consume Roasted Potatoes dishes.

NOTE: 1,000 Luck corresponds to a 1% chance of a rare drop -- using the best trophy and consuming the best food will add 3,400 points alone.

Tier 5 resources require a 1,800 Luck threshold before they even become available to drop.

Cinnabar

Rare drop from Orichalcum Veins.

Again, follow the Luck-boosting advice listed above.

Obsidian Flux

You'll find this in Supply Containers in Lv. 56+ zones.

Charcoal

Crafted at the Smelter.

Recipe

○ x2 Wood

Leveling up your Smelting Trade Skill

There's no real secret to leveling up refining trade skills -- you just need to keep refining your raw materials into Ingots.

Naturally, higher level refining will grant more Trade Skill XP past certain milestones, usually when the next recipe is unlocked. For example, it's better to refine Starmetal Ingots than Iron Ingots, once that becomes available.
