The seventh Gym Leader you'll encounter in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Candice holds the Icicle Badge and mainly uses Ice-type Pokémon. Here's how to beat her.

As with all games in the series, progression in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl revolves around defeating Gym Leaders.

The penultimate Gym Leader is Candice, holder of the Icicle Badge.

How to solve the Snowpoint City Gym puzzle

Before you get to Candice, you'll need to solve a puzzle involving sliding floors and giant snowballs in order to to clear the route to the back of the gym.

How to defeat Candice in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

As always, make sure you heal up at the Pokémon Center before taking on the Gym Leader.

Candice primarily uses Ice-type Pokémon. Luckily, there's some great counters. Bear in mind the following:

  • FightingRockSteel, and Fire-type Pokémon will be super effective.
  • Ice-type moves will not be very effective.
  • Everything else just deals normal damage.

Avoid bringing Flying, Ground, Grass, and Dragon-type Pokémon, as Candice's team will make short work of them.

When it comes to facing Candice, firstly be mindful of the passive Hail effect that will damage Pokémon between turns.

Abomasnow is the most dangerous enemy, thanks to strong moves such as Giga Drain, Earthquake, and Blizzard. Medicham has strong Fighting-type moves, while Sneasel can tap into Steel moves.

Medicham, Level 40
Abomasnow, Level 42

Defeating Candice will get the Icicle Badge, which unlocks the ability to use Rock Climb outside of battle.

She'll give you the Stickers she uses for her capsules, and TM72 Avalanche. This move deals double damage if your Pokémon has received damage in that turn. As such it's a great move for slow Pokémon, who will act second.

Now that you have your seventh Gym Badge, you're ready to move onto the next part of the adventure!
