How to defeat Byron in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
As always, make sure you heal up at the Pokémon Center before taking on the Gym Leader.
Byron only uses Steel-type Pokémon, and they are extremely tanky. You're going to need a lot of offensive power to break down their defenses. Bear in mind the following:
- Fighting, Ground, and Fire-type Pokémon will be super effective.
- The vast majority of other types will not be very effective.
- Poison-type moves will have no effect.
Whatever you do, don't use Fairy, Rock, or Ice-type Pokémon, as these are weak to Byron's Pokémon.
If you chose Chimchar as your starter, then this should be leveled and evolved to Infernape by now and will rip through Byron's team.
Other good options include Lucario or the Machop family.
When it comes to taking on Byron, watch out for his Bastiodon - it has Thunderbolt, which can deal some pretty intense damage if you have a Pokémon weak to Electric.
Steelix also uses Earthquake, a very powerful move that can one-shot weaker Pokémon.
Bronzor, meanwhile, could prove to be the most annoying because of Confuse Ray and Trick Room, which makes the slowest Pokémon go first.
Defeating Byron will get the Mine Badge, which unlocks the ability to use Strength outside of battle.
He'll give you the Stickers he uses for his capsules, and TM91 Flash Cannon. This move hits hard, and can reduce Sp. Def.
Now that you have your sixth Gym Badge, you're ready to move onto the next part of the adventure!
