Since midnight on January 28th, the most impatient players can (again) set foot in the lands of Azeroth in Warcraft III: Reforged. This game is a remastered version of the real-time strategy game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) and its expansion The Frozen Throne (2003).
It's possible to do the 60 missions of the original games by playing as units and heroes of the four factions: humans, orcs, night elves and the undead. Of course, the multiplayer part - which was once the hottest part of the esports scene - is also back, along with the custom games that, at the time, gave birth to a certain Dota.
As a result of Remaster, the graphics, including unit models and terrain, have been revised up to 4K, while using the same engine as before to ensure compatibility between Reforged and classic Warcraft III players in multiplayer. Most of the dialog has also been re-recorded, and Blizzard has made a few small changes to some of the menus, although the majority of the experience remains pretty much the same as the original.
For purists, note that it's possible to choose to play Reforged with the original graphics thanks to a button in the options.
