It is well known that Niantic likes to partner with different brands to offer players of its augmented reality mobile games an enhanced experience, and now it has joing forces with two giants for its latest, Harry Potter Wizards Unite.
The developer has announced that it will collaborate with telecommunications giant AT&T and Simon, the largest mall operator in the US, to create "custom Harry Potter: Wizards Unite gameplay experiences" to fans.
What does this mean for players? Rewards!
More Traces will spawn around Inns and Fortresses located at more than 10,000 AT&T and Cricket Wireless stores across the US, starting from June 21 and July 15 respectively, while all sponsored locations will provide more XP at Fortresses and Energy at Inns. Also, limited-time quests will be available exclusively at these locations to help players level faster.
Commercially, AT&T stores will carry special Harry Potter: Wizards Unite branded goods, such as power banks, fast chargers and more, and will have point-of-sale displays so players can take advantage of AR photo capabilities in the game.
Finally, AT&T will become a primary sponsor of future real-world Wizards Unite events, and customers purchasing from Cricket Wireless' website from July 15 will be able to claim up to $50 worth of Galleons, the in-game currency.
This follows Niantic's strategy of partnering up in its games. For Ingress, they had sponsored items and portals, while this was ramped up for Pokémon GO — one notable partnership being with cafe chain Starbucks.
