Zelda Breath of the Wild offers a gigantic world: here are some tips to get you started on your Hyrule adventure.

Zelda Breath of the Wild: Getting Started

To display the map, you will quickly learn that you must find the Sheikah towers in each area. These high perched points are ideal to start your search for places to visit in the region: a strange forest, a shrine... All you have to do is place a tag, open the map and replace it (if you wish) with a stamp corresponding to the type of place you are pointing to. As a result, the peaks are also excellent places to start your mapping. We therefore strongly recommend you to use and abuse of this system to legend your map in order to remember points of interest that you prefer to leave behind or that you simply can't get past.

Shrines

Shrines are a key element of your exploration and progress. As we will see in an article dedicated to them, the real challenge is more in where to find them more than in how to complete them. Anyway, to strengthen your stamina and your number of hearts, you will absolutely have to do as much of them as you can. Finish 4 shrines and you will be able to go to a goddess statue to increase one of these two statistics, knowing that there is a little trick to specialize you, but this last one will be the subject of a dedicated guide.

Do not underestimate the strength of enemies

Zelda Breath of the Wild is a much more difficult game than its predecessors, and for good reason, it is not uncommon to get killed in one shot. The best way to gauge your enemies is still to surprise them, in the middle of the night or when they are busy, especially with a big back-stab or a head-shot. For once, a good survey of the surroundings is necessary if you want to make the most of your environment: there are often situations in which you will simply be able to get out of it without drawing any weapons. The objective for a discreet assault will be above all to get rid of the spotters placed on their tower: if they spot you, they sound the bugle and the whole camp will be looking for you.

Modules with scanner

The Magnetis and Stasis modules use a kind of scanner to quickly identify the objects on which it will be possible to use them. This will be very practical in many other cases, especially to recover hidden treasures. Without any means of diving underwater, Link will be able to locate and dig up some surprises thanks to the scanner of these two tools. The best thing then is to scan an area that we consider suspicious or likely to contain precious objects.

One problem, several solutions

Zelda Breath of the Wild offers realistic management of physics and elements and from this perspective, the same problem can have a multitude of solutions. For example, imagine that you urgently need flaming arrows, well if you no longer have them directly in your inventory, all you have to do is make them: take a flint, a bundle of wood, put it down and hit it with an iron weapon to create a campfire. Then plunge one of your arrows into the flames and that's it. The game encourages you to experiment a lot, and you should keep this in mind anyway: "How would I get out of this situation in real life?"

Never without my arrows

Arrows are very, very important in Zelda Breath of the Wild because they are used for a lot of things, such as solving puzzles, hitting enemies' weak points, or just causing big critical blows. Our advice: as soon as you see them in store, buy all the stock if you can afford them, they will eventually be used anyway. And if you collect a lot of them in the first areas, we have noticed that they will be rarer in the more remote areas.

Cooking mama

Cooking is essential in Zelda Breath of the Wild and we have obviously devote a complete guide to these mechanics, nevertheless it is always good to recall some basic principles. Many components have effects, very often directly indicated by their name: Electric Saffina, Voltfruit, etc. The latter will have to be dominant in your dishes in order to increase the level of effect, while the rest of the reel will need some kind of "catalysts", which will determine the duration and efficiency of regeneration. In the prelude area you will find Endura Shrooms (endurance regeneration): try to mix 4 of them with a Endura Venison recovered from one of the animals living in the woods, you will tell us about it!

Be loaded

As mentioned above, you will come across a multitude of craft components and other cooking ingredients during your journey. However, we strongly recommend you to do not waste these items: some will be used for resale, others for barter or for side quests. To do it right, you should always keep at least a few units of the same object on you, so that you don't run out if you need it for something else. Make sure you keep a correct stock of monster compounds, they will be very, very useful to you to buy items in a certain store...

Well kept secrets

You must absolutely talk to all the NPCs in the game, even if they don't necessarily have quests to give you: each villager or traveler is likely to give you very interesting information about the different provinces of Hyrule. Between the rumors, the locations of Link's memories, exploration tips, cooking recipes... You would lose a lot if you didn't ask the locals, to tell you the truth, that's how we came across a key element of the game's scenario.

Interacting with the wildlife present in Hyrule also has its good sides and is much more useful than you might think. For example, deer can be used as a makeshift mount, or it is also easier to fish by throwing a few ingredients in the water, which will eventually attract local fish. The most profitable and practical thing is still to feed a dog until it is full: once it is full, it will put itself on its own way from a very well hidden chest that you will only have to dig up with Magnesis.
