Some rare Pokémon can be caught in the waterways of Sinnoh. Here's where you'll get the different Fishing Rods in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

With so much content being unlocked once you've completed your Sinnoh Dex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you're going to need all the tools at your disposal.

One of those is the Fishing Rod, allowing you to fish up some great Pokémon in the waterways of Sinnoh.

There are three types of Rod you can obtain -- the Old Rod, the Good Rod, and the Super Rod. There's a Clint Eastwood joke in there somewhere...

Anyway, the better the Rod, the more rare the Pokémon you can catch. Here's where you'll find all three.

Where to get the Old Rod in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

You can't miss the first tool in the series, the Old Rod.

Once you've reached Jubilife City, head to the northwest exit that takes you to Route 218. You can't progress past this entrance building, but inside a boy in a red cap will offer you the Old Rod.

To use it, the easiest thing is to go into your Bag, then the Key Items Pocket, and select the Old Rod with A. Choose to Register the item, and then assign a slot.

Now, approach a body of water. Press the + Button and select the Old Rod. The line will be cast.

There's only two Pokémon that can be caught with this rod -- Magikarp, and Feebas. The latter is only found in four tiles in Mt. Coronet North, that change randomly. Yikes!

When you see an ! appear above your head, press A to reel in your catch -- and get ready to battle!

Where to get the Good Rod in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The next rod can be found on Route 209.

As you progress east from Hearthome City, you'll come across a fisherman on a wooden pier.

When he asks if you agree that the Good Rod is good, naturally you should say Yes.

As easily as that, he'll give you the Good Rod. Now that you have it, you'll be able to additionally fish up Gyarados, Barboach, Finneon, Goldeen, and Poliwag.

Where to get the Super Rod in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The best of the best, the Super Rod unlocks a lot more great Pokémon. However, you must have completed the National Dex first. A massive undertaking..

Once you've done that, go to Snowpoint City dock. Talk to the sailor there, and head off to the Battle Zone.

In the Fight Area, take the path in the direction of Route 225 -- which is blocked off if you haven't completed the National Dex -- and speak to the Fisherman before the gate.

Congrats, you now own the Super Rod!

In addition to the Pokémon above, you can now catch the following:

  • Lumineon
  • Shellder
  • Whiscash
  • Dratini / Dragonair
  • Carvanha / Sharpedo
  • Qwilfish
  • Octillery
  • Seaking
