Where to find Giratina in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Here's how to find and capture both forms of Giratina, one of the Sinnoh region's Legendary Creation Trio, in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The Sinnoh region of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is home to plenty of Legendary Pokémon, most of which become available in the post-game through Ramanas Park.

Here's where you'll find both forms of Giratina, the Renegade Pokémon.

How to unlock Giratina (Altered Forme)

Giratina is located in the Turnback Cave, beyond Route 214. To access the path, you'll first need to have unlocked the National Pokédex.

Head south from Veilstone City onto the route, and keep making your way south. If you stick to the right side, you'll see that the Spring Path has opened up.

Follow this to the Sendoff Spring, and climb down to the Turnback Cave entrance.

As soon as you enter, use Defog so you can see clearly.

You'll need to locate the room that comes immediately after the third pillar. This is randomized, but for us it was the following:

  • First path: Left, left, up, up.
  • Second path: Left, left, up, up, up.
  • Third path: Up, up, up, up, up, up.

You only have 30 rooms in order to find Giratina, or you'll return to the start. Be mindful not to leave a room once you've entered it, as this will also reset the puzzle.

Once you've seen the three pillars, save your game and prepare to face Giratina.

Meet Giratina, the Renegade Pokémon

Like all other Legendary Pokémon, Giratina (Altered Forme) is susceptible to attacks that cause Paralyze or Sleep.

While this could prove to be a marathon battle, using a Quick Ball at the start of the fight, or Timer Balls if it goes on past ten rounds, is recommended.

Unlike other Legendary Pokémon, Giratina is immune to False Swipe. This is due to the move being Normal-type and Giratina being Ghost-type.

As such, it's pretty easy to accidentally knock it out. Don't worry if this happens -- it will reappear if you start over.

How to unlock Giratina (Origin Forme)

First, you'll need to unlock Ramanas Park, and exchange Mysterious Spheres dug up from the Grand Underground for the Distortion Slate.

Take this to the Distortion Room in Ramanas Park, and you'll battle a Level 100 Giratina. You cannot capture this Pokémon, but when defeated it will drop the Griseous Orb.

Simply give this Orb to your Giratina to hold, to have it appear in Origin Forme.
