The bulk of the team having worked on the 1997 version is back to take care of this Final Fantasy 7 Remake more than ambitious. Tetsuya Nomura, in addition to having the heavy load to be the co-director of the title, takes care to modernize his characters created more than 22 years ago. For that, he went to seek the help of his man of confidence since the character design of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Roberto Ferrari. Enough to be confident about the final rendering. Cloud Strife
Legendary protagonist, Cloud is an ancient SOLDIER wielding the giant sword. Now a mercenary, he accepts all contracts that come his way, no matter what the cause. This cold and rather silent young man seems to be interested only in money. His participation in a mission with the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE will plunge him into a conflict with far greater stakes than he thought and will shed light on his dark past, buried deep inside him.

His design remains relatively close to the one of 1997, except that the colours of his outfit are much darker than before, giving it a more realistic look. His rusty epaulette attests to the young man's adventures. Today's technology also makes it possible to convey Cloud's emotions through his eyes, which are very closed.
Barret Wallace
Leader of the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, this gruff-looking man wielding a cannon in place of his arm does everything to prevent the evil actions of the Shinra. His story is much more complex than it seems and will reveal that his motivations go far beyond the ecological cause.

Barret has evolved well and some accessories have been given to him such as sunglasses, some pockets attached to his legs and, finally, a t-shirt. The attachment for his weapon has been greatly improved, giving him better credibility.
Aerith Gainsborough
A young Midgar flower saleswoman of impeccable kindness and empathy. She spends most of her time growing flowers in a church in Sector 5, one of the poorest in the city. She will discover over time that she is much more important than she lets on.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
No radical changes were observed on Aeris, apart from more detailed information on her outfit, it's her face that underwent the most change. More elongated with smaller eyes, it has created controversy among Japanese players because she's too European for their taste. No announcement for any change has been made yet.
Tifa Lockhart
Member of AVALANCHE, owner of the 7th Heaven bar and childhood friend of Cloud, Tifa is an outstanding bare-handed fighter, remaining true to her convictions. Very attached to him, she will do everything to keep him with her when she realizes his strange behavior. She is a determined and optimistic woman who knows how to create cohesion in a group.

Wearing a skirt that is much less tight and much more practical for combat, Tifa follows the example of his companions in the desire for realism of the accessories. She is also equipped with a gauntlet covering one of her forearms, a t-shirt under her white top and very high socks reminiscent of what she wears on her arms.
Red XIII
This feline-like creature is native to Cosmos Canyon. Following a war in its region of origin, it lost its parents at a very young age. One day the Shinra took him away to carry out some experiments on him for the Jenova project. This "13th specimen" is of great importance to the company and in particular to Professor Hojo.

This new version of Red 13 is very close to the artworks of 1997, detailing with meticulousness the smallest details that we unfortunately could not necessarily see on his 3D renderings of the time. His tattoos and the marks of his complicated past clearly appear in this new version.
Sephiroth
The legendary antagonist and SOLDER of Episode Seven. This powerful fighter, considered the best SOLDAT, intimidates with his giant katana, Masamune. Rather cold looking, Sephitorh knows how to be friendly. Endowed with great intelligence and self-control, an event will push him to become the inhuman and sadistic murderer that the world knows. The complex story of this charismatic character, both poignant and intriguing, holds many surprises. Sephiroth is introduced in the first episode of this remake, present in the form of what appears to be a flashback. His return was quite unexpected in this part devoted to Midgar and will certainly serve to flesh out Cloud's past.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Like Cloud, Sephiroth has not undergone any major changes. The most notable difference is the belt he inherited with what appears to be a feather engraved on it.
In a message from the development team, Square Enix have announced that the release date for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake will be pushed back to April 10, 2020.
