As you make your way out of the Train Graveyard in Final Fantasy VII Remake, you'll encounter another tough boss — Eligor. Our guide helps you deal with this enemy quickly, and includes strengths, weaknesses and strategy.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Chapter 11 Walkthrough: Eligor Boss Guide

The ghosts of the train graveyard have set you another trap, Ghoul was not the real boss, but simply an aperitif in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Eligor is the real party responsible for the kidnappings and tragedies that plague the area. Prepare for a rather difficult fight for the group, always composed of Cloud, Tifa and Aerith.

Planning & Materia

  • A bench and a vending machine will allow you to rest in a room a little before the boss, this will allow you to approach the fight in great shape. You should save after moving the third train, a cutscene and the fight will follow soon after.
  • Warning: Equip the Steal Materia on a member of the group (preferably Tifa). The boss has a unique weapon for Aerith, which can only be obtained by stealing it during the confrontation. You will probably have to try it several times to get it.
  • Unlike ghosts, Eligor's weakness is Ice . We therefore advise you to equip each member of the group with an Ice Materia. This will give you an easy option to deal critical damage to him and fill up his stagger bar.
  • Having one or more group members equip Healing Materia is also highly recommended. Giving self-healing Materia or similar items to your teammates can allow you to focus on your own survival.
  • Do not forget to equip the summon Materia of Shiva.

Eligor Abilities

  • Sweeping Gaze: A laser attack that will shoot in an arc, silencing and putting to sleep anyone hit by it. A well-placed dodge with Cloud or Tifa makes it possible to avoid it, but with Aerith, it will be difficult, if not impossible. What makes this attack dangerous is not its damage, but the effect of sleep and silence inflicted on the character. It may be advisable to give Aerith a sleep immunity talisman for these reasons. Affliction dissipation consumables should be used with another character, if necessary.
  • Javelin Bolts: Rains javelins from the sky, and seeing them arrive is not necessarily easy with the angle of the camera. It can be advised to make preventive dodges, or to block in default.
  • Trample: A basic charge attack. Fortunately, it does not rotate quickly and will generally circle the area. Beware of his side shots, however.
  • Reflect: Casts Reflect, preventing magic damage. It will be necessary to pay attention to your timing.

Combat

  • Eligor is what you would expect from a boss in a cart. It will darken in the area, then try to crush your characters. He will give side blows and sweep the area with his laser. Your characters in melee have interest in getting behind him and aiming for the humanoid form rather than the wheels.
  • This boss is vulnerable to ice, but since it's very mobile, it makes the use of spells of this type a bit risky because of their activation time. It's better to wait until it stops before launching them. You can take advantage of the periods between 2 to charge your ATB bars, heal yourself or cast preparation spells, for example the Arcane Ward and Aerith's Fleeting Familiar so that you can trigger a devastating attack.
  • The rain of javelins is really what you will have to be wary of in this fight, dodge sideways several times when it prepares them. The timing is not particularly difficult in itself, but the camera does not help to see them when they arrive directly above you. It may therefore be wise to dodge preventively, blindly.

  • Eligor will regularly fly away and bombard you from the skies. Taking control of Aerith is then advised in order to be able to continue attacking it and to load its bars. Once again, wait for it to stop to send your ice spells, or use spells that cannot miss their target, such as lightning, even if the effect will be less.
  • During the last phase of the fight, Eligor will get angry and the wheels of his cart can finally be targeted. Unleash all the attacks of your characters on them in order to put the boss in shock and thus shorten the fight. You can unleash ice attacks and mega attacks quietly to conclude the confrontation.
