With special Raids, Mega-Evolutions, a Community Day featuring Spheal, and more, here's what's coming to Pokémon GO in January 2022.

Niantic have posted a new update detailing what players can expect to see in Pokémon GO during January, and it's shaping up to be a bumper month.

Alongside existing Raids, there'll be a new Mega Raid featuring an all-new Pokémon.

Here's what you can expect. 

January Research Breakthrough rewards

For the entirety of January players can get their hands on Onix, both in standard and shiny form, as well as Steelix Mega Energy.

  • Duration: Saturday, January 1, 2022 at 1 p.m. PST to Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1 p.m. PST

Raids: Featured Pokémon

The following Pokémon will be available in Five-Star Raids. Rotations begin and end at 10 a.m. local time.

  • Kyurem: Saturday, January 1 to Friday, January 7, 2022
  • Heatran: Friday, January 7, 2022 to Saturday, January 15, 2022
  • Genesect (Shock Drive): Saturday, January 15, 2022 to Monday, January 24, 2022
  • Regice: Monday, January 24, 2022 to Tuesday, February 1, 2022

There will also be two Mega Raids during January, including the debut of Mega Aerodactyl.

  • Mega Abomasnow: Saturday, January 1 to Friday, January 7, 2022
  • Mega Aerodactyl: Friday, January 7, 2022 to Tuesday, February 1, 2022

We'll also see Raid Hours every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time:

  • Kyurem: January 5
  • Heatran: January 12
  • Genesect (Shock Drive): January 19
  • Regice: January 26

Note that Genesect (Shock Drive) is the only Pokémon not available in shiny form during the  January raids.

Pokémon Spotlight Hours

Every Tuesday in January, between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. local timea new Pokémon will be highlighted and able to be captured in greater numbers. These come with special bonuses:

  • January 4: Solosis, with 2x Transfer Candy
  • January 11: Diglett, with 2x Catch Stardust
  • January 18: Plusle, with 2x Catch Candy
  • January 25: Minun, with 2x Transfer Candy

Bear in mind that Solosis cannot be captured in shiny form.

Other events planned for January

Other events in January include:

  • Spheal Community Day: Sunday January 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • New Year's Event: Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10 p.m. to Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 8 p.m.
  • Mountains of Power: from Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. to Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 8 p.m.
  • Electric-and Steel-themed event inspired by Kanto Power Plant: Wednesday, January 19 at 10 a.m. to Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 10 a.m.
  • Every Monday in January, a one-time-purchase bundle containing a Remote Raid Pass and other items will be available in the shop for 1 PokéCoin.
