We've long known that Square's Final Fantasy VII Remake would be a PlayStation exclusive from release, thanks to a brief message following the game's E3 2015 announcement trailer.
Now, we know for certain the length of time this exclusivity will be valid for, thanks to new box art originally identified by well-known Twitter user Wario64.
After that time period lapses, we're likely to see FFVII Remake on other platforms, such as Microsoft's Xbox One. It's also very likely the title will appear on the next generation of machines — the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Scarlett.
Given the scale of the game, and the hardware likely rquired, it remains to be seen whether or not the Remake will appear on Nintendo Switch. However, after CD Projekt Red's port of the impressive Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we'd rule nothing out — especially given Square's considerable support for the handheld console.
Meanwhile, Square have released several new images from Remake, including close-ups of Avalanche and the Turks and a more detailed explanation of the real-time battle system. Players will also be able to switch between battle modes, should they prefer a more classic experience.
Also shown was Aerith's home in Sector 5 — now looking more like a quiet corner of a slum rather than the somewhat out-of place tropical paradise of the original!
We also get a glimpse of the church and that iconic patch of flowers — but will the "Aerith ghost" glitch make an appearance?
Final Fantasy VII Remake comes to PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020. Stay tuned for more information, guides and reveals!
