On November 16, 2018 a new event began in Pokemon GO to celebrate the release of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee.
This is the Kanto Event, and a new Special Research task — "Let's Go Meltan!" — is available. Here is the list of quests to be done:

- Catch 10 Pokémon (500 XP)
- Transfer 5 Pokémon (500 XP)

- Catch 10 Pokémon (1000 XP)
- Hatch 3 Eggs (1000 XP)

- Catch a Ditto
- Win 2 Gym Battles
- Battle in 2 Raids
- Rewards: Great Balls x10, Incense x3, Max Revive x3

- Catch 5 Steel-type Pokémon
- Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon
- Earn 5 Candies while walking with your Buddy
- Rewards: Stardust x4000, Pinap Berry x5, Rare Candy x5

- Evolve a Grimer
- Catch 5 Slugma or Gulpin
- Make 20 Great Throws
- Rewards: Stardust x5000, Great Balls x20, Lure Module x5

- Evolve a Magnemite
- Catch 5 Exeggcute
- Battle in 10 Raids
- Rewards: Ultra Ball x10, Metal Coat x1, Silver Pinap Berry x1

- Catch a Cubone
- Evolve a Drowzee
- Evolve a Scyther
- Rewards: Ultra Balls x10, Charged TM x1, Premium Raid Passes x3

- Catch an Aerodactyl
- Catch 2 Omanyte or Kabuto
- Catch 2 Anorith or Lileep
- Rewards: Stardust x8000, Star Piece x1, Meltan encounter

Once Meltan is captured, this step only allows you to collect rewards:
- 13,500 EXP
- Stardust x9000
