Following the release of a new Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer focused on Cloud at The Game Awards 2019, Square have now released a series of screens detailing various characters and locations from the game.
Characters
Let's start with the bad guys — President Shina, who seeks to crush Barret and Avalance; Heidegger, his loyal second-in-command and somewhat furious in spirit; and Sephiroth, who needs no introduction.
Also introduced is a new character, Roche — described as a former SOLDIER and now something of a speed-freak rebel.
Train Graveyard
One locale detailed is the Train Graveyard, which our heroes have to cross when returning to Sector 7 following their encounter with Don Corneo. This segment involved a little bit of a placement puzzle involving the trains, and judging by the third screenshot this looks like it will remain in Remake.
Shinra Building
The next location shown is the iconic Shinra Building, the massive tower at the heart of Midgar. Between the floors reserved for tourists and those strictly for employees only, the Shinra Building is important for a whole host of reasons.
Most notably, the party will meet Red XIII for the first time during their Aerith rescue mission. They'll also encounter the dastardly Professor Hojo in the process — one of the best antagonists in video games.
Aerith in Battle
There's also a series of images detailing Aerith's fighting style. As we've already seen in the various gameplay videos released so far, she will focus mainly on magic-based attacks and healing — taking care to stay back.
Unlike the original game, in which she jumped to the enemy and hit them with her staff as her basic attack, she will now fire a magic-based projectile from the staff instead.
Shiva
The Empress of Frost herself is detailed in a couple of new screens, showing off her new high-fidelity style. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, summons will only be possible in tense situations, such as boss battles and in fights against the more stronger opponents you'll meet.
The first instalment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake arrives on April 10, 2020, and is a PlayStation exclusive for a year.
