Final Fantasy VII Remake may have been delayed, but Square Enix are making sure the upcoming release is still at the forefront of our minds.
This time, they have celebrated the in-game birthday of fan favourite and resident Cetra, Aerith Gainsborough. According to lore, she was born on February 7, 1985 — making her 35 years old today.
However, as the game is technically set in 'late 0007, early 0008' — a date roughly ten years after the real-world release of the game in 1997 — she's a youthful 22 years old during the events we control.
Of course, someone had to go and post a particularly savage reply to Square's post...
Square have also released a new image, which fans of the original will know represents the very end of the chapter the Remake will cover upon release — our team of heroes enjoying a moment of calm before departing Midgar.
It also suggests that Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Barret and Red XIII will be the playable characters throughout this first instalment, despite promotional material introducing other characters 'early'. This would mirror the original title, where Cait Sith, Vincent, Cid and Yuffie were only encountered following the party's departure from Midgar.
This follows the latest trailer released by Square Enix, which gave us a first listen of the official theme song, co-composed by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, and shows us more of that infamous Wall Market setpiece...
For the curious, here are the birthdays of Final Fantasy VII Remake's other main characters...
- Cloud Strife — August 11, 1986 (21 years old in the game)
- Tifa Lockhart — May 3, 1987 (20 years old)
- Barret Wallace — December 15, 1972 (35 years old)
- Red XIII — Born in 1959, exact date unknown. Despite being 48 in-game, his species has incredible longevity, meaning he's compared to a teenager by Bugenhagen.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is scheduled for release on April 10, 2020, as a one-year timed exclusive for PlayStation 4.
