Introduced back in the Summer of 2017, Raid Battles are one of the most important features of Pokémon GO. For the first time in a long time, they are going to receive significant changes.
First of all, a Raid Battle is a battle against a Boss Pokémon that has taken over a Gym. It isn't particularly easy combat, because the opponent has more health and is more powerful than usual. However, you can invite your friends or other Trainers around the globe and fight together.
Four years after the feature implementation, Trainers will experience some interesting changes. For example, the arrival of “Trainer Achievements”. After doing specific actions while in a raid, you will be rewarded with being highlighted at the end of the battle. Those specific actions can be giving the final hit to the boss, being the Trainer who did the most damage, using a Mega-Evolved Pokémon, among others.
After earning a Trainer Achievement for the first time, Trainers will get a medal. This medal can be leveled up by completing more achievements in other Raid Battles.
From an artistic point of view, visual updates, such as user interface changes, are also coming to Pokémon GO. For instance, the stadium in which Raid Battles take place will have a complete redesign in the summer. Also, there will be “other visual updates”, but there is no word on what they are going to be.
On another topic, Regigigas, the legendary Pokémon from the fourth generation, is also available in five-star raids. It will make an appearance in this type of raid, after being exclusive to EX Raids, and as part of Special Research encounters. Regigigas will be appearing until July 1.
