Jayce is a hybrid champion, both melee and ranged. However, to kill your enemy in the laning phase you'll most often have to dive into melee range, and use up everything you have.
The Conqueror rune will give you the ascendancy in this type of trading, while Brutal will support your early game all-in potential.
In green, Bone Plating is perfectly suited to bruisers who have to initiate short and impactful trades.
Finally, Hunter - Genius in blue reduces your cooldowns, so you can spam your abilities and win the poke war.
Skills
Here is the optimal skill order. Max out the abilities as outlined in the graphic below, though make sure you rank up your ultimate whenever you can.
At level 2, it is ALWAYS preferable to take Thundering Blow, in order to get out of a badly started trade, or to deliver a final blow to the enemy before disengaging.

Tips & Tricks
- Used correctly, Jayce's Thundering Blow can interrupt a number of enemy dashes, and can also be used after an aggressive Flash to pull your victim down towards an ally.
- Don't hesitate to use Hyper Charge to destroy turrets faster.
- Learn how to synchronize your Acceleration Gate and your Shock Blast, so that the portal accelerates the orb when it begins travelling forward. It will surprise more than one enemy.
