Finally we had about 1 hour of gameplay for Baldur's Gate 3, which allowed us to discover the many possibilities of the Divinity 4.0 engine used by the game. Let's say it right away, it looks a lot like Divinity Original Sin 2 in more ways than one, which is not surprising. However, the universe is different, the interactions with the scenery are multiple, the verticality of the locations is important, which allows you to use it against your enemies, and the combat system is a faithful transcription of the 5th edition of the Advanced Dungeon & Dragons rules, which also implies a lot of small differences in practice.
It's possible to choose from many races, classes and origins at the start to create a truly unique character. There is also the option to select one of the Origin characters (as in Original Sin 2) that have specific talents and history. They otherwise end up as companions for recruitment.
The dialogues are one of the big differences, with a close-up view of the interlocutor, and dubbing of the lines. Many options are available, depending on your race, your origins, but also alignment choices. You can play a vampire who bites his companions at night for example. But such acts can cause your companions to leave you if they do not conform to their alignment.
Stealth is an interesting option for thieves, allowing them to avoid certain fights or to start them with the advantage. Interactions are particularly brilliant in this case, since it is possible to push someone from the balcony, for example, to crash them from below. You can then throw a large stone or even your boots at them. The number of options in this area is incredible, and many strategies are possible. You are not limited to simple attacks and spells on your opponents.
- One of the elements that saddens us at the moment is the limitation to 4 characters in the group. On the other hand, it will also be possible to play with 4 in multiplayer, which promises great evenings of fun with friends.
- Baldur's Gate 3 will be released in early access on Steam in a few months. There is currently no release date.
