Following the Big Yeetus & Anti Cheatus update from Fall Guys, the multiplayer game's matchmaking is expected to get better and better. Indeed, we learn in the patch notes that a new anti-cheat system has been implemented on PC, and that it should oust cheaters. This device is based on the one already used by Epic Games on Fortnite for example.
But yesterday, the Fall Guys Community Manager revealed something even more fantastic. In a long thread of twenty tweets, he explained that the developers have been paying attention to cheaters since the launch of the game.
They worked behind the scenes to identify and gather as much information as possible on potential cheaters. The goal? Being able to spot them easily at the start of each game, and avoid banning players who wouldn't cheat.
After several weeks, the data collected was deemed sufficient. Unfortunately, the anti-cheating system then put in place didn't make it possible to identify all the cheaters and therefore to be effective. Yet he was there, well deployed.
Cheater Island: a system in place for a few weeks already
This anti-cheat system is called Cheater Island. Once detected, cheaters were then redirected to a server specially designed for them. These servers had to accommodate 40 players in order to be functional and the developers hoped that players would realize that the game was no longer "fun".
It didn't work and the cheaters were coming back again...
The new solution
No longer having time to fool around, the developers of Fall Guys had to find alternative solutions.
Now, when a cheater is detected, they can complete their mini-games but will be immediately disconnected from the server. Additionally, since the update of September 15, 2020, the Epic Games anti-cheat system has been implemented on Fall Guys.
Fortnite uses Easy Anti-Cheat to detect cheaters: it is software that is already integrated on a hundred games.
Cheaters should therefore be fewer and fewer on the servers!
