Everything rolls in the land of beans. Less than 48 hours after going free-to-play, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout saw a massive influx of players — an influx so large it caused the servers to crash. After this little inconvenience, which still lasted a few hours, players were able to happily fall into the colorful Battle Royale.
Free pays
We're not going to lie to each other, the party-game phenomenon of summer 2020 is coming back from afar. Like Among Us or even Valheim, it was able to attract a lot of players when it was launched, attracted by a simple and user-friendly concept. But like its counterparts, it has lost popularity. No, it has not been deserted – in particular because it has been able to offer new content almost every month since its release, to the delight of fans – but the hype was no longer the same as when it started .
And that's when Epic Games comes into play and decides to buy the little game of colored beans, developed by Mediatonic, and make it free-to-play.
And inevitably, when there is no longer any need to go to the checkout (and we remember that Fall Guys only cost 19.99 euros), it comes back hard. And to say that it had a crowd is an understatement since the party-game recorded more than 20 million players 48 hours after its transition to free-to-play . Of course, this figure includes players who have already held the title before, but it is still impressive.
Epic Games surely had the right idea by making the game free. To compensate for the free title, players will now have to pay their precious money to obtain the Season Pass or even cosmetics. A very widespread economic model on F2P which has already proven its effectiveness. By making the game free, the studio should therefore logically earn even more.
What's next?
For its new beginning, Fall Guys has started again in Season 1 with a multitude of new content but also the return of old skins and levels. It can be assumed that Epic Games will continue with the addition of new cosmetics and seasons, with the aim of attracting even more players.
Crossovers are likely to be expected — as before. We have already come across Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Kena and Rot from Kena: Bridge of Spirits or even Ratchet & Clank.
Those of you looking to download the game may have noticed that Fall Guys is no longer on Steam, instead forcing you to access it through the Epic Games Store if you've never played it before. However, Mediatonic has reassured Steam users that support for the Steam version will continue.
