Would a Switch Pro be in Nintendo's plans? This is what a silence from the president of the Japanese company, Shuntaro Furukawa, suggests, which, as you will see, says a lot. Let's see together how a refusal to speak shook the Nintendo community!
A Nintendo Switch Pro approaching?
During the company's quarterly report, Nintendo's CEO had a rather surprising reaction to a simple question. When asked if a new Switch console was on the way, Shuntaro Furukawa refused to answer the question . Having a habit of being very transparent about the ambitions of the company, this refusal on the part of the CEO surprised the community.
In 2020, when asked the same question by journalists, he unhesitatingly replied, "When it comes to the Nintendo Switch, we think it's important to continue communicating the appeal of the two Nintendo Switch consoles. and expand the installed range. Please note that we do not plan to release a new Nintendo Switch model in 2020."
But then, why this time has the CEO been so mysterious on the subject? Could it be because a new Switch console, or even a Switch Pro, is on the way?
The current fiscal year will end in March 2023 , which gives Nintendo a significant amount of time during which the company can officially announce the arrival of a new console.
The stars are aligned
Indeed, this year would be conducive to the release of a new console from the Japanese company. Mainly, a Switch Pro could be a solution to Nintendo's problems. This fiscal year, Nintendo consoles were much less successful than in previous ones. Going from more than 22 million Switches sold to less than 21 million , this slight drop however announces the beginning of the decline of the console. Although it is still a phenomenal success, the Switch is celebrating its 5th anniversary and the OLED was apparently not enough to bring up the console figures.
For some time now, rumors of the arrival of a Switch Pro have been rife. Questioned on the subject, the president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser , had replied "not to hurry with regard to the arrival of a new console" . While the Switch figures are down, it is therefore quite possible that the company will reconsider its decision and decide to actively work on a new project.
Nintendo defends that its legendary console is currently only "halfway through its life cycle" , and that it therefore still has good years ahead of it, which we do not doubt. This drop in sales figures may be due to Switch shortages, which around the world have caused some stock-outs. However, this silence from the CEO and this rather favorable period for the arrival of a Switch Pro keep the fans in suspense…
