Dead Ops Arcade 3 is a spin-off of the popular Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
This third edition of Dead Ops Arcade is a tribute to the fans who have supported this game mode over the years. Treyarch explains how this game mode was successful and explains how it works.
The origins of Dead Ops Arcade
What should have been a small side project has actually become a real tradition for Treyarch. It was a breath of fresh air from the heavy story of Alex Mason in 2010 when he enters DOA by accessing the computer terminal. In a blog post, David King spoke on the game mode.
"Dead Ops Arcade was inspired by the kind of games I loved growing up in the 80s. The mode started out as a simple homage to classic arcade games, and things just kept getting crazier from there. The dedication that our fans continue to show to DOA inspires us to continue pushing this mode to new places"- David King, Technical Director at Treyarch.
With just three lives and unlimited ammo, players had to fight their way through each level taking out hordes of zombies while collecting weapons, treasures, and bonuses along the way. With the built-in co-op support, friends could team up night after night to take on the Silverback and see how long they could last.
In Black Ops 3, the next episode of DOA arrived as Cosmic's brother Cyber battles his brother's killer in Dead Ops Arcade 2: Cyber's Avengening. Surpassing the success of its predecessor, Dead Ops Arcade 2 brought many new additions to the series in 2015.
Players could now switch to first person for an extended period for the first time, access a new arsenal of weapons from Black Ops 3, and use new Scorestreaks, specialized weapons, vehicles, and powerups.
“What started out as a surprise game mode has turned into a real passionate project for our audio team. DOA's silly vibe allows us to write all kinds of different music that wouldn't normally work together. Some are inspired by 8 bits, some are inspired by 90s trance music, and a few are from another planet ... but it all works together to create a super fun environment. The best part is if anyone has any idea song, he can write it and we can fit it in. It gave the mode a ton of variety and some really interesting music that wouldn't exist otherwise."- Brian Tuey, Audio Director at Treyarch.
Deadly dungeons. Endless arenas. Fierce poultry.
In DOA 3, players will face challenging new arenas, open world spaces full of mysteries and secrets, randomly generated dungeons, bonus rooms with special rewards, incredible weapons, more power, and over 30 types of enemies spanning the entire history of Black Ops Zombies. And of course, more chickens to help you along the way.
To really make things interesting this time around, DOA 3 introduces some randomly generated dungeons. Found in The Wild, players can unleash constantly evolving new dungeons filled with nasty traps and lucrative rewards. While these can be difficult, the rewards could outweigh the risk if you can make it out alive.
As players move on to subsequent rounds, they will be able to stock up on Fates. These are essential permanent character upgrades that you'll need to survive down the line. These buffs include Fate of Firepower (granting a Permanent Death Machine as the default weapon), Fate of Friendship (granting a permanent Chicken Companion), Fate of Furious Feet (granting a permanent buff movement speed), the Divine Shield Spell (granting 50% bonus time on any shield element), and more.
The next time you explore a dungeon, keep an eye out for a Rock of Fate. Finding them will allow you to benefit from several destinies and become super powerful.
Escape to nature
“The Wild offers players the freedom outside of the classic arenas that we have grown to love. It was a great learning experience for the DOA 3 team, bringing back nostalgic memories while creating a new journey for players to enjoy. with their friends. big fan of DOA myself, it was an honor to participate and help provide a new experience for our players! "- Jennifer Chamorro, Level Designer at Treyarch.
Calling all collectors
Trophy Hunters will need to earn five Dead Ops Arcade 3 trophies if they aim for 100% completion: “Fowl Five Piece”, “Dungeon Diver”, “Survive the Wild”, “Forever Fated” and “Reunited with Fidolina”. "
They also included 14 Dead Ops Arcade Calling Cards to be won in the Silverback Expedition and Gorilla Stalker categories of the Barracks Zombies challenges. As you complete each set you'll also get an animated primary business card to show off in the game!
The Treyarch team would like to thank the community for playing this very unique game mode since 2010, which should never have been a traditional game mode of the Black Ops license.
