In February 2021, notable Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson revealed that there is a possibility of the next Call of Duty title will be set around the theme of guerilla warfare.
Another leaker that goes by the name of Victor__Z was convinced that CoD 2021 will be set in the Second World War, implying that the game will be a sequel to Call of Duty: World War 2 which released towards the end of 2017.
Since Activision confirmed that a 2021 instalment would be released in a conference call, there has been no official information or teasers suggesting where the franchise could be heading.
Current leaks and rumors suggest that the franchise is either heading to World War 2 once again or the 1950s.
A new piece of evidence has been discovered in Black Ops Cold War, which is pointing towards a return to World War 2.
The letter found in the Ruka Outbreak map on Black Ops Cold War explains that military bodies were sent to Bavaria, a state in southeastern Germany, which was also the location of the Final Reich in the World War 2 campaign.
Two theories can be taken from this discovery:
- This is just a little background on previous titles for the Zombies story.
- Treyarch is slowly teasing the next Call of Duty by incorporating secret documents within the game.
The next installment is due to be released in Q4 of 2021, meaning that official teasers for the game could be emerging in the not-too-distant future.
For now, take any leak or rumors with a grain of salt and stay frosty for any clues that could point towards where the Call of Duty story is heading next!
