On May 26th, Activision released a report detailing a number of techniques and initiatives that the publisher will use to reduce toxicity and racism across the franchise.
Activision also stated that over 350,000 accounts have been banned over the past year for racist names and toxic behavior based on reviews and reports submitted by players.
The publisher also revealed that new filters to ban offensive usernames or clan tags have been implemented in order to clamp down on the issue.
A full list of improvement areas can be found below:
- More resources to support detection and enforcement
- Additional monitoring and backend technology
- Scrubbing databases to bring systems up to current standards
- Consistent and fair review of enforcement policies
- Increased communication with the community
Toxicity has been rife in Call of Duty for a number of years and it's great to see Activision finally taking a stand on the issue. Hopefully, the new measures will lower levels, making the franchise a much more fun and safe experience for all players.
