Following Naughty Dog's recent job ads, the company is working on a game that will be online exclusive.

The Last of Us new multiplayer might be a standalone title

Last March, we told you that Naughty Dog, the company behind The Last of Us, was looking for new workers for an online experience. Back then, we discovered that they were working on a "live service" title that would focus on player's progression, economy and other aspects.

Today, two new job ads were posted by the studio. One for a gameplay scripter and the other for a level/environment designer. What's interesting about them is that both descriptions say the following:

"Embark on Naughty Dog’s newest adventure – the studio’s first standalone multiplayer game! We’re seeking to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project."

While this is far from a confirmation, it could mean than the long-expected "Factions" mode that was absent from The Last of Us Part II might have turned into a full game of its own.

Let's not forget that the online mode was missing from TLoU II because the team explained that they were focusing on the single player campaign before the game's launch. However, they also announced that they would work on it in the future.
