You already know MKLeo is the best SSBU player in the world, but who does he believe are the strongest characters in the game?

MKLeo Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 9.0.2 Tier List

MKLeo was the number one ranked player at the end of Super Smash Bros for Wii U (Smash 4) and continues to be the undeniable king of Ultimate ever since release. The T1 sponsored Joker main is the reason people even consider Persona 5's stylish protagonist top tier.

Game 5 Leo is known for consuming all momentum and turning things around faster than Rebel's Guard can fill Joker's Arsene meter (Rebellion Gauge).

Let's learn how the accomplished Mexican pro analyzes the SSBU meta in his version 9.0.2 tier list video.

The 2019 EVO champion discusses the best and worst characters in Ultimate.

What is a Tier List?

Tier lists are visual representations of the most dominant characters in a game's current meta based on results, frame data, options, and personal opinions. Players often gravitate toward characters at the top of tier lists, aptly named top tiers, because those fighters have the best matchups, especially against other strong characters in the scene.

What is a matchup spread?

Matchup spreads analyze characters' strengths and weaknesses in one-on-ones against the rest of the roster. Top tier characters have the best matchup (MU) spreads, meaning they should win against most characters assuming both players have the same skill.

Why play mid or low tiers?

Winning with mid or even low tier characters is more difficult, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. Play whichever character best suits your playstyle and provides you with the most fun experience. All it takes to move up the tier list is the right player to come along and discover new tech or master an underutilized character. You could be the next pioneer that shifts the meta.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an incredibly balanced fighter despite the massive character pool, so don't be too surprised when 'weaker' characters like King K Rool win majors in Australia.

Why are tier lists inconsistent from pro to pro?

Many characters are underdeveloped and don't have the best representation at the highest level leading to inconsistencies like Byleth, Min Min, and Steve. Opinions play a big part in tier lists, making analysis and comparisons between top-level players all the more engaging. However, you'll find more consistency when it comes to the best fighters in the game.

The most fascinating aspect of tier lists isn't actually the placement, but the player's rationale behind it.
