The second part of our full Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl walkthrough for Nintendo Switch guides you from Oreburgh City through to your second badge in Eterna City, and taking on Team Galactic.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Walkthrough: 2 - Oreburgh City to Eterna City

Welcome to our step-by-step walkthrough of your Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl adventure!

There have been several changes made since the original titles released in 2006, so this new walkthrough aims to guide you through Sinnoh without missing a single thing.

Back through the Oreburgh Gate

Now that you've beaten Roark and obtained the Coal Badge, your next objective is to make your way to Eterna City and get a Bike.

Leave the city through Oreburgh Gate. Now that you have Rock Smash, you can explore this cave a little further. You can head downstairs to Floor B1, but not everything is opened up to you until you have the Bicycle.

However, you'll still be able to pick up TM70 Flash, and some Stardust. Psyduck also has a chance to spawn here.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Once through, make your way back to Jubilife City.

Take the north exit to Route 204, where Professor Rowan is being hassled by Team Galactic goons, who want his research. Their aim is to recreate the entire galaxy, something that obviously shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Naturally, Rowan wants you to take care of them.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

You'll team up with Dawn in a double battle. They're not too strong, so you should have no problems defeating them.

Zubat, Level 9

Following the battle, Rowan and Dawn will disappear and you'll be accosted by Bebe, who was impressed by your performance.

She'll unlock the ability to access Pokémon Boxes from wherever you are, a highly useful tool, and the Capsule Decoration feature.

She'll give you some Ball Capsules and explain that you can decorate Poké Balls, something that will come in useful later.

Continue along Route 204.

  • Starly
  • Shinx
  • Kricketot
  • Budew
  • Magikarp (via Fishing Rod)

There are a few Trainers for you to battle along the route. They shouldn't prove too difficult, and are a good opportunity to give some EXP to your less-leveled Pokémon.

Now that you have Rock Smash, head left. You can't progress past the water, but you will find TM39 Rock Tomb.

Return to the entrance and take the right path, smashing through the rock. Exit to the south onto the northern section of Route 204.

There's one mandatory Trainer battle here, with Aroma Lady Taylor, and several optional Trainer battles you can take part in for extra EXP.

Floaroma Town

The first thing to do when you arrive in Floaroma Town is pick up a pair of extremely rare Mythical Pokémon, providing you meet the conditions.

How to get Jirachi and Mew in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Continuing with the theme of recognising save data, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players will be able to pick up the Mythical Pokémon Jirachi and Mew if they have played previous Switch releases.

Now, to scoop up all the town has to offer before moving on.

Following the path, you'll come to a small wooden house with a red roof. Inside, the girl with the Clefairy has TM88 Pluck. Just answer 'Yes' to her question.

The building to the right of this house is the Flower Shop. Pick the two plants outside for a couple of Cheri Berries and a pair of Oran Berries.

When you gather Berries from a plant, you'll be left with a patch of soil. You can plant more Berries here, and come back later to harvest them.

Berries are very useful items, as you can make Pokémon hold them for automatic use in battle. They're also needed in the making of Poffins later in the game.

Head into the Flower Shop.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The lady behind the counter will sell you Stickers in exchange for Berries. These are used to decorate your Ball Capsules.

The girl in the orange dress will give you the Sprayduck, a watering can that facilitates the growth of Berries you have planted.

You can also pick up a Pecha Berry from the girl near the counter.

If you head to the very northwestern part of Floaroma Town, you'll see a couple of Team Galactic Grunts blocking the entrance to the Floaroma Meadow.

You can't pass them right now, so head east out of town and onto Route 205.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Route 205 South

Pokémon found on Route 205:

  • Bidoof
  • Buizel
  • Pachirisu
  • Shellos
  • Magikarp (via Fishing Rod)

Head east along Route 205, where you'll find a pair of Berry bushes. Raid them for two Pecha Berries and two Chesto Berries, and plant more if you desire.

You'll then be accosted by a small girl, who explains that her dad hasn't returned from working at the Valley Windworks.

This blocks progression, so head east to where you can see a building surrounded by wind turbines. Ignore the bridge for now, as the Team Galactic Grunts won't let you pass.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

In the bottom left you'll find a Potion, while the tall grass next to the Windworks building can contain some new Pokémon. It's advised to pick up a Buizel, as you'll meet someone who wants to trade for one soon.

It's also a strong Pokémon, as is the Shellos found here. When evolved into Gastrodon, it becomes twin Water and Ground types, a fantastic combination that only comes undone against Grass types.

Speak to the Team Galactic Grunt outside the Valley Windworks building to instigate another battle.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

He shouldn't be too difficult to take down at this point, and your Pokémon should be several levels ahead of his Glameow.

Team Galactic Grunt

Glameow, Level 11

Win: 704 Pokédollars

Once beaten, he retreats into the building.

In order to get inside, you'll need to find a Works Key. Remember the pair of Grunts blocking the entrance to the Floaroma Meadow? That's your next destination.

When you get there, you'll find they've disappeared. Head inside.

You'll find the goons harassing an old man.

Yep, you guessed - time to battle. Thankfully, they'll take you on one after the other instead of together.

Having rescued the old man, he'll give you the Works Key the two goons have dropped. You'll also get some Honey, and from now on you'll be able to buy more from him.

If you enter the house to the right, the residents will explain how it works.

Whenever you see a brown-colored tree like the one outside this building, you can slather Honey on the bark. If you come back later and check the tree, you may encounter some uncommon and rare Pokémon, such as Combee.

Now that you have your key, return to the Valley Windworks.

Following the battle, the little girl from Route 205 comes rushing in. The scientist is her dad, and he'll tell you about a special Pokémon that only appears at certain times outside the Valley Windworks.

This Pokémon is Drifloon, the Ghost-type Pokémon, and it can be found hovering outside the Windworks each Friday. This one is easily missed when completing the Sinnoh Dex, so make sure you make a note to return!

Now it's time to traverse Route 205 proper.

The Grunts from the bridge have now disappeared, so head north. A boy here explains the Honey tree thing once again, so slather some on the bark.

Just past the tree you'll take on Camper Jacob. Defeat him, and look to the left where you'll see an X Attack on the rocky outcrop up some steps, through the tall grass. Collect that, and take on Hiker Daniel.

Come down the steps to the right and battle Aroma Lady Elizabeth. Once done, look at the little self-contained rocky outcrop with some steps just above her. There's an Antidote here, but it's hidden. Run around mashing the A button to pick it up.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Head through the tall grass here and take on Picnicker Siena. When you've beaten her, head left under the bridge to find a Poké Ball.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Now, backtrack to Daniel and up some more steps to take on Camper Zackary. Cross the bridge and take on Hiker Nicolas, before heading through the tall grass.

Keep left for a Repel, before you're accosted by Battle Girl Kelsey. You can also take on Picnicker Karina right after.

Head down the steps and claim the Super Potion, before entering the house. The woman will let you rest up, which is perfect timing.

Leave the house and head past Karina. The bug catcher will give a veiled warning about Antidotes, so make sure you have some before the next part.

Enter the Eterna Forest.

Eterna Forest

Pokémon found in Eterna Forest:

  • Wurmple
  • Silcoon (Uncommon at night, Brilliant Diamond)
  • Cascoon (Uncommon at night, Shining Pearl)
  • Budew
  • Buneary
  • Beautifly (Super Rare at night, Brilliant Diamond)
  • Dustox (Super Rare at night, Shining Pearl)
  • Murkrow (Uncommon at night, Brilliant Diamond)
  • Misdreavus (Uncommon at night, Shining Pearl)

As soon as you enter Eterna Forest you'll encounter Cheryl, who's too afraid to pass through the forest alone. She'll join your party for the duration.

Each battle from now on will be a double battle. Cheryl uses a Chansey, and it's a literal tank. A cool perk of this forced partnership is that she'll heal your Pokémon fully after each battle.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Naturally, there are several Trainers for you to battle along the way.

Where you encounter pairs, you can actually split them and battle them separately if you like. Just keep hard left or right when approaching them.

Of course, if you want to battle them together, approach them from the center.

Immediately after Cheryl joins you, head left for an Antidote.

If you head into the northwest through the tall grass, you'll come across the Moss Rock. Useless for now, if you come back in the post-game with an Eevee and level it up near this rock, it'll evolve into Leafeon.

For now, go east from the entrance into the tall grass, then head north. You'll battle Lass Briana and Bug Catcher Jack here.

Head north, picking up the Paralyze Heal, then follow the path east and south, battling Psychic Lindsey and Lindsey Elijah.

In the bottom corner, in the tall grass, you'll find a Potion, before encountering Bug Catcher Donald and Bug Catcher Phillip to the east.

Now head north along the path, taking on your final pair of Trainers - Psychic Rachael and Psychic Kody.

Come all the way south again and head into the tall grass. You'll pick up a Great Ball as you head all the way north. If you take the left path around the trees, in the tall grass, you can find some Honey.

Heading north then east, you'll come to a pair of trees that look like they can be cut down. This is the entrance to the Old Chateau, somewhere you'll come back to shortly.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Approach the exit of the forest, and Cheryl will thank you for the escort. You're now free to leave the forest yourself, or farm up some new Pokémon should you wish.

However, we'd strongly recommend using the time you have with Cheryl to power level your Pokémon a bit. Given she heals you up after every single battle, it's a great opportunity to gain an advantage over what's to come.

We'd especially recommend trying to pick up a Murkrow (if you have Brilliant Diamond), a strong Dark/Flying-type Pokémon.

Route 205 (North)

Exiting back onto Route 205, there's just a short way to go to reach Eterna City.

There are three Fishermen you can battle here, and if you take the northern path through the tall grass you'll find two Cheri Berries, two Pecha Berries, two Oran Berries, and some Honey.

Eterna City

As always when entering a new town, head to the Pokémon Center to heal up your weary team. Inside, a woman will give you the Friendship Checker app for your Pokétch.

Head north, and by the building with the trees blocking it you'll bump into Cynthia, a powerful Trainer. She'll give you TM93 Cut, which you'll need for those trees once you have the Forest Badge.

The Herb Shop is just to the east here, so pick up some medicines for your Pokémon if you need them. A couple of Revival Herbs might come in useful!

You can also visit the giant Ancient Statue in the center of town. Behind it, you'll find a Draco Scale.

The building in the far south is the exit, but you're blocked until you acquire a Bike. The Cycle Shop is between the Pokémon Center and the Poké Mart, but a kid inside will tell you that the owner went to the Team Galactic Eterna HQ.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

In the Condominiums, you'll find the Name Rater sitting at a table on the ground floor.

A girl will also offer a trade; the Buizel we mentioned earlier for a Chatot. This bird is a useful addition to your party, especially if you pick it up before taking on the Eterna City Gym.

On the second floor, an old woman in a kitchen in the bottom right will give you TM67 Recycle.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

In order to get into the HQ, you to have unlocked the ability to use Cut outside of battle. For that we'll need the Forest Badge.

It's time to hit up the Eterna City Gym. Follow our guide below for how to battle your way to victory over Gardenia.

How to beat Gardenia in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The second Gym Leader you'll encounter in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Gardenia holds the Forest Badge and mainly uses Grass-type Pokémon. Here's how to beat her.

Now you're ready to take on the Team Galactic Eterna HQ. However, we're going on a little adventure beforehand.

Unlocking The Grand Underground

Go to the Underground Man's House next door to the Pokémon Center and speak to the elderly gentleman inside. He'll give you the Explorer Kit and take you outside to show you how to access the Grand Underground.

A giant maze that covers all of Sinnoh, there's plenty to do here that we'll cover in an upcoming guide.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

For now, return to the surface using the Y Button. Speak to the old man again to earn a Red Sphere S, Blue Sphere S, and Green Sphere S. These are special currencies used in the Grand Underground.

The old man has more tutorial tasks for you that you can complete right away, but we'll cover that in our dedicated guide.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Once done, heal up at the Pokémon Center and make for the Team Galactic Eterna HQ.

Use Cut on the trees, but don't go in immediately. Instead, head right and up, cut down another tree, and go all the way right for TM46 Thief.

Now head inside.
