The 2020 rotation and the arrival of the new Standard Year will, as always, be decisive in Hearthstone.
Three expansions will rotate out of Standard mode (Witchwood, Boomsday Project and Rastakhan's Rumble) and this should create a real revolution.
While they'll still be able for playing in Wild mode, a lot of Mage cards from the previous expansions are going to leave the Standard mode, meaning that several different archetypes that are currently shaping the meta will be affected — or will even disappear.
Some of these cards weren't really used, but the disappearance from some others will definitely be noticed...
The Witchwood
The Boomsday Project
Rastakhan's Rumble
Currently, the Mage does not have many existing archetypes: only the Mage Highlander is really played and efficient, while the others have disappeared as the meta fluctuated.
Let's say that the 2020 rotation will especially put a big blow to the Mage in general, with the departure of Luna's Pocket Galaxy. Surely, we can expect a Mage Tempo decklist alongside a Mage Control one to return — at least as long as the Incredible Reno is in Standard mode.
We will also have to see if the Cyclone Mage can reinvent itself after the loss of the Mountain Giant and the Elemental Evocation.
