The only woman in the Overwatch League , the Korean Se-yeon "Geguri" Kim, was recruited by Shanghai Dragons during the inaugural season. The team wasn't in great shape with 100% defeats to their credit, and new recruits were strongly needed.
Geguri was already the first female professional Overwatch player, joining ROX Orcas at a very young age, and playing in the Overwatch Apex tournament at a very high level.She encountered very known names from the Overwatch scene: Lunatic-Hai, Cloud9KongDoo, Afreeca Freecs, RunAway. The best of the best was there, and her partners (CrOng, Striker, Aid) have almost all moved up to the Overwatch League.
She is known for being accused of cheating with 80% winrate in 420 games and a 6.31 KDA ratio. She had to play in live stream showing her keyboard, mouse and hands to prove her innocence. After shutting down the allegations against her, her performances have enabled her to join the Overwatch League in 2018.
Today, at only 20, she is one of Asia’s sports and entertainment celebrities. She's the first to receive such an award in Overwatch.
