Implemented in early November, Battlegrounds is still in beta phase and has undergone multiple updates since its launch. Blizzard's take on the AutoBattle genre has attracted many players, but it's still not possible to create custom games with seven friends.
Admittedly, you can play with one friend — but the six others will be random players. With the addition of this feature, it will be possible to organize tournaments as well as fun games with friends, a recurring request from the community for a few months.
According to dataminers, you'll have the possibility to create custom games with up to 8 players, and you'll be able to tag in the normal queue with a group of four players.
Although Blizzard hasn't yet officially stated about the matter, we can safely assume all of this is true — as Blizzard's roadmap is mentioning a major update for Battlegrounds in their phase 2.
In any case, we will have to be patient and hope for an announcement in the coming weeks, the expansion being scheduled for early August.
