SSBU: More than 3,000 entrants for Smash Ultimate at EVO 2019

EVO 2019 is less than three weeks away, and already it will see a new record — exactly 3,492 players have signed up to try and claim the crown of EVO World Champion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Released in December 2018, Smash Ultimate has proved to be a big hit with players. Despite this, it has been slow to gain ground as the definitive Smash esport, with many FGC tournaments still preferring Melee.

However, with Ultimate being front and center at EVO, this may change sooner rather than later.

Of the nine official games, the Smash Ultimate tournament will be the largest by far. The final numbers show it will have over 1,500 entrants more than its nearest competitor, Street Fighter V.

The Evolution Championship Series takes place August 2-4 in Las Vegas.
