There's a new competition for SSBU in the form of a Throwback Throwdown, taking players all the way back to 1999. Here's all you need to know about this Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64-inspired tournament for SSBU.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Online Challenge: All you need to know

fight like it's 1999 in Nintendo's new Throwback Throwdown, based on game that started it all: Super Smash Bros, on the Nintendo 64.

SSBU is taking players back to its roots with a challenge exclusively featuring stages and items from the original game. In this challenge, you'll have to try and accumulate as many points as possible, with the top 100 players with the most points winning 1,000 Gold Points. The #1 player in the region will receive 10,000 Gold Points. The results of this competition will be released as soon as the event ends.

Event Information

The European Challenge runs from 18:00-20:00 on the 16th October and is open to all of Europe. Here's how you can get involved:

  • You must have a Nintendo account located in the region in which the event is taking place
  • You must have an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online
  • You must own the game on Switch
  • You must take part in Tournament matches by selecting "Online" in the main menu, followed by "Official Tourney Qualifiers"

Rewards

The top 100 players with the most points will be treated as victors and each receive 1,000 My Nintendo Gold Points. Players will receive the rewards within two weeks from the conclusion of the event at the latest. Winners will be notified by email and by My Nintendo notifications.

Nintendo finally unveils its new fighter who comes straight out of the well-known universe of Minecraft. He will be included in the roster of upcoming playable characters on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
