Nintendo released the latest trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, highlighting some old "friends" from Breath of the Wild (BOTW) and a mysterious figure that put us into full geek/detective mode.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place before the events of BOTW, during the 100-year war we hear so much about, but never experience. It features all four champions, as well as Robbie and Purah.
Here are some takeaways from the trailer.
The Yiga clan is back
Everyone's favorite stealthy bandits, the Yiga Clan, are the main focus of the latest trailer. In BOTW, they would sometimes pretend to be travelers, then reveal their true selves in a flashy way and attack Link.
They're back and look a little different, but that could just be the art style. The Yiga clan, made up of assassins and thieves, are offshoots of the Sheikah. Their logo is an inverted Sheikah crest. They strive to kill anyone who stands in the way of Ganon's return.
More Master Kohga
Master Kohga was one of the better enemies in BOTW. He was flashy, flamboyant, and fun to fight. He mostly grunted and laughed in his original appearance. Age of Calamity gives us a better sense of his garish personality.
With all of the humor intact, Master Kohga showcases some flips and his memorable dance battle moves. Theoretically, he should be 100 years younger in this game.
He also said with his signature line, "kill you all... to death!" which is on-brand.
A few landmarks
We saw a few different locales in the new trailer. One is a burnt-out village, which seems to be in an arid, mountainous region, so possibly near the hideout? Speaking of which, the clan's HQ is also shown, with Kohga in some sort of cave featuring markings on the wall. The clan also appears in a forest, maybe Korok Forest where the Master Sword lies.
The mysterious figure
This brings us to the meatiest part of the trailer, where a mysterious hooded figure interacts with kneeling Yiga Clan foot soldiers. The figure also appears in the scene in the cave.
The internet is rife with theories. One is that the figure is Agahnim, the initial antagonist in A Link To The Past. Another is that the figure is Vaati from The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords. Both are cloaked figures, and Vaati might be the better guess because he of the jewel on his forehead.
That's the biggest clue we from the trailer: a headpiece. Our best guess is that the figure is probably Yuga from A Link Between Worlds. Yuga holds a scepter just like the cloaked figure and wears a similar headpiece. Also, Yuga was a playable character in the previous Hyrule Warriors game, so the addition makes sense.
