Overwatch didn't take the spotlight too much at BlizzConline this year. Some players expected a cutscene or an announcement for Overwatch 2 during the opening ceremony, and didn't get any of that.
The developers justified themselves by saying that this choice was deliberate having too many announcements for only 10 minutes.
The last hero to date, Echo, was released in April 2020 and one could say the game is lacking in features and freshness.
During an interview with Gamespot Jeff Kaplan, vice president of Blizzard Entertainment and Game Director of Overwatch explained that they were not planning to let Overwatch without new content.
This is the first time in months that fans have received confirmation that new content is coming.
However, he said that no new hero would be released, since that would delay the launch of Overwatch 2.
