Russia will face another Sanction for the CS:GO Major

CS:GO tournament organizers continue to act against Russia. The war is still going and the competitive scene does not hesitate to engage, at its level, in the battle. After ESL or BLAST, it's PGL's turn to speak.

In a few weeks, the next CS:GO Major will begin. With us, we hope to find as many French players as possible (Team Vitality, G2 Esports; HEET) who will have to go through a qualification tournament (RMR) where danger will come from everywhere. But the teams are not the only ones preparing and the organizers also have a lot of work to do. In particular, it was necessary to decide on the Russian question... Since the war broke out in Ukraine, many organizers have taken a stand against the central government by way of protest (ESL, BLAST...). PGL which organizes Major Antwerp was also expected at the turn and without great surprise, a new sanction fell. It's not very good to be a Russian organization at the moment.

The debate is open and we still don't know if esport and politics go hand in hand. Some approve, others disapprove and everyone will form their own opinion.

Gambit and Virtus.Pro deprived of Major

In its statement, PGL condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine which has caused enormous pain and suffering. At their level, the organizers have therefore decided to act by punishing organizations and individuals who have a direct relationship with the Kremlin . They will not be able to be represented in the Major or in the qualifying tournaments for the latter.

Two teams are therefore personally targeted: Gambit and Virtus.Pro . We imagine that the leaders of the two structures grimace, even if they should start to be used to it. During the ESL Pro League 15, this was already the case and the players had to change their name to participate. Without a jersey and with a different tag, the Gambit roster had changed to " Players " and the VP roster to " Outsiders ". These may be details for you, but this kind of measurement is far from ridiculous. In terms of image and sponsors, it's a blow.

What about Russian players and other teams?

PGL makes a good distinction between people who have dealings with the Russian central government and those who don't. The players of the two organizations mentioned above are in a delicate position and the organizers did not wish to sanction them. They are therefore all invited to participate in the competition, but under a neutral banner.

A priori, the other Russian teams will be able to participate in the RMR (and the Major in the event of qualification) with their tag and their jerseys. PGL expressly mentioned Gambit and Virtus.Pro... so we imagine that other organizations are welcome. Teams like forZe , Team QUAZAR or Team Spirit can therefore breathe. The latter had in any case already repeatedly denounced the war on the networks. She even opened an office in Belgrade to relocate.
