Your Chocobo is a very important partner in Final Fantasy XIV, one that will follow you for most of your adventures -- that is, outside of duties and if you choose to summon it, of course.
There are a few ways you can change your feathered friend’s look:
- You can equip bardings, either a complete set or mix-and-match three pieces from different sets.google
- You can change your Chocobo’s color.
In this guide we’ll focus on the second option, as it can be quite a challenge to get done just right.
FFXIV How To Change your Chocobo’s Color
The first step in changing your Chocobo’s color is to own either an apartment, a house, or be a member of an Free Company that owns a house. You will need to stable your Chocobo, and these are the only spots where you can do that.
If you’re not in a Free Company or don’t own a house, getting an apartment is quite easy -- you only need to go to the Residential Area you like, and buy one in the apartment building. You will then be able to use the stable in front of the building.
Once stabled, changing your Chocobo’s color to the one you want specifically is no small feat. Each color has a starting point (your current color) and a finish line (the one you want).
To change that, you will need to feed your Chocobo a very precise set of fruits in a given order, so that you influence the RGB of its feathers.
Doing so is not always going to give you the best results though, as luck is also a factor in this process. Even following the perfect order will not always give you the perfect color, and there are no clear indicators of success before the reveal. In short, there's a lot of trial and error.
To know which fruits you need to give to your Chocobo, most players will use an online calculator like this one -- where you just need to input the current color and the one you want to see the amount of food and the order to follow.
Once again, this is not a 100%-accurate process, as I had to do it twice to get my preferred black color. On the other hand, if you land close to the color you desire, you’ll only need a few adjustments and not a twenty-item long list.
