Disney Dreamlight Valley was released on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Early Access on all platforms and has been offering a major content update since October 19, adding a new character: Scar . The opportunity for you to (re)discover the Sunny Plateau biome and especially its new area: the Mines of Vitalys ! In addition to the Halloween content, the update offers other new features, but today we are going to focus on Scar and his story and friendship quests.
Introducing Scar
Released in 1994 , The Lion King marked the spirits of several generations and remains today a must-see Disney starring Simba who must take the place of his late father as king of the valley. But that was without counting the wicked Uncle Scar who did everything to keep him away and start a reign of desolation. Taken in by Timon and Pumba with the famous "Hakuna Matata" way of life, Simba grows up in joy and finds Nala, his childhood friend, who begs him to return to the kingdom to regain control.
In the game, only Scar is currently available, but we know from leaks that other Lion King characters will join the game.
Unlock Scar, his house and his rewards by friendship level
It is thanks to the big update of October 19, 2022 that Scar is now available in the game. To unlock him, you must first have completed The Curse quest with Mother Gothel and cleared the passage to the Sunny Plateau.

Scar's house is not being built: it is the Elephant Graveyard on the Sunny Plateau.
Below are the rewards Scar gives you at each Friendship Tier. Level 10 is the maximum you can reach. Then, it will no longer be useless to make him gain experience, but it will always be more advantageous to take him to accompany you on an excursion since his bonuses will be higher.
As for Scar's favorite gifts , know that he really appreciates fish dishes: make sure that this item is one of his 3 favorite daily gifts, but in general, he comes back often.
Like any character, Scar will offer you to follow Story quests to advance the scenario but also Friendship quests.
Nature and Care
story quest
Thanks to Scar, you will finally be able to benefit from the Sunny Plateau at 100% (fishing in water points, breaking bones, etc.). If you have fulfilled the prerequisites described above, a cinematic will automatically start with the rivers of the Plateau turning purple.
Your first mission will be to investigate the giant skull in the Sunny Plateau Elephant Graveyard . You've probably already come across it, especially with Goofy's quest which asked you to photograph it. Here is what it looks like below:
With your Pickaxe, you just have to break the rocks in front of the entrance to the cave in order to enter it and find Scar. Talk to him and he will tell you how to restore the Plateau river: he will ask you to go to the Vitalys Mines , at the mouth of the river on the Sunny Plateau.
Note that a chest is stuck in a rock inside the cave.
If you haven't moved Goofy's Stand, then know that the entrance to the mines is just behind it: locate the beginning of the Plateau river. Once inside, you will quickly understand that the area is still quite large and you will find new resources such as:
- Shining rubies and rubies,
- Shining sapphires and sapphires,
- Vitalys crystals.
Feel free to explore the mine from top to bottom to find chests and multiple rare ores. On entering, you have to go left, walk a little, then take the first tunnel on the right. You will come across rails with a path going to the left, one in the center and one to the right: continue straight until you find a passage with purple bioluminescent mushrooms. Continue straight ahead following the path, to come across the camp. Take the small climb on the right to find the barrel of dynamite and the sign giving instructions.
Once the panel has been read, go back down and continue towards the camp to open the chest and take the contents: the recipe for the super sparkling root beer and the ingredients. Store them well. Exit the cave and go talk to Merlin . He will give you the recipe for basic root beer and popping sugar. Know that you won't need the latter right away.
Once the super-sparkling root beer has been prepared, return to the Vitalys Mines to the dynamite barrel and place the drink in it. This will blow up whatever is blocking the flow of the river and raise the water level. Note that a passage is now available at the bottom of the cave thanks to a small bed of floating logs in order to recover a chest and another ore.
However, the water in the Sunny Plateau is still purple! Get out of the mines to see it for yourself and you will come across your evil version who will open a portal. Go inside and pick up the Healing Orb that you will see on the ground (it's white).
Get out of the Portal and go talk to Merlin to show him the Withered Healing Orb. As its name suggests, the Orb is in bad shape and will have to be restored. But before that, the magician will ask you to create an Elixir of Miraculous Growth: learn the recipe in your inventory.
- 10 Crystals of Vitalys : to extract in the ores of the Mines of Vitalys,
- 10 Enriched Earth

Then craft the Elixir via the "Potion and Enchantment" tab of your Workbench and use it in your inventory: this will boost your Watering Can so that the plants grow faster. Return to Merlin who will ask you to take care of the Orb until it regains its shine.
How and how long should the Healing Orb be cared for?
- Go to the Sunny Plateau and more precisely in front of the Pillar surrounded by purple fog,
- Use your Shovel to dig a hole in front of the Pillar,
- Approach the hole to interact and plant (like a seed) the Withered Healing Orb,
- Water it with your Watering Can previously boosted by the Elixir,
- The Orb will grow a small plant which will wilt after about 12 hours: you will need to water it again and wait another 12 hours. This can fluctuate if it rains in your game of course.

On our side, we planted the Orb at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and the latter was only able to grow properly on Friday morning (i.e. more than 30 hours)
We tried watering it with the Super Elixir (an upgraded version of the Elixir that can make plants grow instantly) but it didn't work. Do not hesitate to tell us in comments how long you had to wait on your side!
Good to know : Scar's friendship quests only unlock if you've completed his story quest! Above all, do not use Time Travel (changing the time of your console) as this could damage your console. It's not like in Animal Crossing New Horizons where this technique is risk-free.
Once the Orb has been restored, pick it up and insert it into the Pillar: this will restore its natural color to the water and make beautiful flowers grow all around it. You can now catch fish like Walleye in the water points of the Sunny Plateau! Return to Scar to complete the quest.
You don't eat your friends
Level 2 Friendship Quest
Once Scar's Friendship is at level 2 and the story quest is completed, you will be able to access this quest. You also need to have progressed with Rémy. Scar will ask you to go talk to Mother Gothel so she can make you a real villain coat. You will then need to gather the following ingredients:
- 10 Fiber : Collect or fish Seaweed to craft Fiber via your Workbench,
- 4 Cloth : thanks to Cotton (seed to buy at the Sunny Plateau) you can make it via the Workbench. Otherwise, you can buy some directly via the Kristoff Stand,
- 2 Citrine : a gem that can be mined on the Sunny Plateau

1 Iron Ingot
Bring the materials to Mother Gothel to give you the cloak. Open your inventory and wardrobe tab to put it on.
Now go talk to Rémy to prepare a good meal for Scar (you will have the recipes in your inventory to learn directly):
- 2 Tuna Maki : x1 Rice + x1 Seaweed + x1 Salmon
- 2 Salmon Maki : x1 Tuna + x1 Soya + x1 Seaweed + x1 Rice
Once the dishes are cooked, leave the room where you were in order to follow Rémy heading towards Scar to speak to him and attend the discussion.

Level 3 Friendship Quest
This mission is very important because it will finally allow you to improve your Shovel Tool to remove the wildebeest bones that clutter the Sunny Plateau. Go talk to Scar who will tell you that it's Scrooge who holds the secret to improving the Shovel.
In general, Scrooge is in his Store: talk to him (you will also see that a new quest allowing you to arrange the Plateau is available). Return to Scar again and gather the following materials:
- 5 Lion Claws : you will find them in the shiny holes of the Sunny Plateau and more specifically those around the Elephant Graveyard! If you miss some, do not hesitate to walk along the cliff that starts from the Cemetery to the Mines de Vitalys
- 5 Dry Wood : the white wood you can find in the Sunshine Plateau, the Forgotten Lands and the Frozen Heights,
- 5 iron ingots
Now go to your Workbench in the "Potions and Enchantments" tab and craft the Lion Claw Shovel Head. Then open your inventory and click on the shovel head to use it and add it to your tool. You can now remove wildebeest bones but only the young ones!
Scar will also ask you to remove 5 from the Plateau to complete the mission.
The circle of life
Level 7 Friendship Quest
Scar tries to remember how to improve your shovel even more. You will have to talk to Mother Gothel who will explain the cycle of life to you: the lions eat the wildebeest, but when the lions die, they turn into grass and the wildebeest eat the grass. The witch will ask you to gather the following items:
- 10 Purified Nightshards : You need to find 10 Nightshards (by clearing thorns or digging the glowing holes) and transform them with Dreamlight Dust via your Workbench,
- 1 fossil bone found in the mines of Vitalys. Here is the exact path to take: enter the Mine, take an immediate left, go forward a little and turn the first right. Then turn left and you will find the fossil on the ground.
Return to Scar who will explain to you that you must now reduce the fossil to ashes and bury the ashes:
- Reduce the fossil to ashes: go to Scar's cave and use the geyser at the bottom right of the room to burn the fossil,

Then plant the ashes anywhere in the Sunny Plateau: use your Shovel to dig a hole and interact with it to plant the ashes like a seed. Water them: don't worry, it will only take a few minutes to grow unlike the orb!
Once the Golden Bone Flower grows, harvest it.
Now go to your Workbench in the "Potion and Enchantment" tab to craft the Roaring Shovel Head with your 10 Purified Nightshards and the Bone Flower. Then open your inventory to use the head on your shovel and improve it: you can now remove larger bones.
Scar will ask you to remove the bones blocking the Sunshine Plateau bridge.
The rise of a monarch
Level 10 Friendship Quest
In order to unlock this mission, you must have access to the Forgotten Lands. To become a true monarch again, Scar will need the other villagers to trust him. So he wants to organize a dinner party and will give you the recipes for teriyaki salmon and red currant pie from Snow White. Even if you already know them, don't forget to open your inventory and learn them so as not to bug the game. Prepare the dishes:
- Teriyaki Salmon : x1 Soy + x1 Salmon + x1 Sugar Cane + x1 Rice + x1 Ginger

Redcurrant Tart from Snow White : x1 Redcurrant + x1 Wheat + x1 Butter
If you have trouble finding the necessary ingredients, be aware that soybeans can be found at the Sunny Plateau (Goofy's Stand), sugar cane at Enchanted Beach, rice at Bayou de la Confiance, ginger at Forgotten Lands, redcurrants at the Terres or Sommets Glacées, the wheat at the Prairie Tranquille, the Butter in the Restaurant Chez Rémy and the Salmon in the white circles of the Sommets Glacées or the Plateau.
Take the dishes to Scar in his Cave and then go talk to Merlin about his lost bauble. In reality, you confiscated it to make it more lovable. For this, Merlin advises to build passerine feeders:
- 40 Softwood (don't hesitate to buy some at Kristoff's Stand if you don't have enough),
- 20 cotton (seeds at the Goofy stand on the Sunny Plateau)
- 10 Dark Wood (the wood of the Forgotten Lands)
- 6 Red Bromeliad (Sunny Plateau)
- 6 Pink Houseleek (Sunny Plateau)
Once the materials are harvested, use your Workbench to craft 2 Sparrow Feeders. Then return to the Plateau, cross the bridge and open your edit mode to place the 2 pieces of furniture next to the pond.
Your last objective will be to feed the Sparrows of the Sunny Plateau. Usually there are 2 different ones per day but you can only feed them once per day. Note that each color of Sparrow has a favorite flower to eat, but normally each of them can forage on any flower.
Once done, return to Scar in his cave and pick up the Mysterious Mirror Shard that will appear on the floor.
