You're all looking forward to it, Pokémon Sword and Shield is here now. For those of you who have not yet bought or chosen the version they will play, here is an guide that should help you make your choice.

Here's all the differences known to date between the Sword and the Shield version of the game!

Pokémon exclusive to one version

Pokémon of the older generations

These are the Pokémon you will only meet in the version you have chosen. To get the ones from the other version, you will have to do some trading!

Deino (and also: Zweilous, Hydreigon)

Larvitar (and also: Pupitar, Tyranitar)

Jangmo-o (and also: Hakamo-o, Kommo-o)

Goomy (and also: Sliggoo, Goodra)

Galarian forms

Galar is a new region with many secrets to discover. Some Pokémon there have a particular shape or can evolve in new ways. There is a small difference between the two versions:

Sword version

Shield version

Sirfetch'd (Galarian evolution of Farfetch'd)

Galarian Ponyta (specific to the region)

As in all Pokémon games, each version has its own legendary Pokémon. So, will it be a shield-faced wolf or a wolf with a sword in its mouth?

Gym exclusive to one version

Sword version

Bea will be the champion of one of Galar's Gyms. She's a specialist in Fighting-type Pokémon.

In the other version, Shield, this same arena will have as its champion the trainer Allister, an amateur of the Ghost type.

The differences between these two versions remain minor. Still, it's the first time that we have two different arenas at the same moment in the story.
