Join Hop on Route 1. Your next stop is the Wedgehurst Laboratory — the large purple-roofed house in the distance.
We'd first recommend practising a little in the tall grass of Route 1, and capture some new Pokémon. You now have five Poké Balls.
You can encounter:
- Nickit
- Rookidee
- Wooloo
- Skwovet
By taking the first path to the right of Route 1, you will find:
- a Potion
Continue around the path a little further to find:
- 2 Paralyze Heal
Arriving in Wedgehurst
The city is quite large. The first building you will see is the Station. You're unable to travel at the moment, although you'll find a Poké Mart inside. Stock up on Potions and take a few Revives if you can afford it, as they will come in useful.
Continue to the east of Wedgehurst. There's nothing interesting in the first house. The second house is the Laboratory, where Leon is waiting for you.
He will introduce you to Sonia, Professor Magnolia's assistant, and her loyal Yamper.
Sonia will give you access to the Pokédex on your Rotom Phone.
You must now inform the Professor that you have received her Pokédex. She lives at the end of Route 2.
When you leave the Laboratory, a man will give you a Potion.
Head north of Wedgehurst. Hop will be waiting for you, and will introduce you to Pokémon Centers. Take the opportunity to heal your team before continuing on Route 2.
In this Center, you will also find:
- The man on the left who allows you to change the name of your Pokémon. He also serves as the Move Tutor, allowing you to forget or relearn moves.
- A Poké Mart is found on the right of the Center.
- A Rotomi (PC) for storing Pokémon and other features taught later.
When you leave the Center, you can talk to an 'Astrologer' on the right. By giving her your date of birth, she will let you know that you will soon find a Legendary Pokémon.
You will also find the following in Wedgehurst:
- A Merchant selling Berries
- A Clothing Store
- In the bushes to the top left, near the Clothing Store, you'll find a Poké Doll.
You'll run into Hop, who will explain what the Gym Challenge is all about. To participate, you need a Recommendation Letter.
As you continue along the road, remember to recover the Revive hidden behind the rock. It's simple: every time something shines on the ground, it's a hidden item.
You have arrived at Route 2.

Route 2
Leon will give you 20 additional Poké Balls to catch the Pokémon found here:
- Chewtle
- Nickit
- Rookidee
- Skwovet
- Galarian Zigzagoon
- Yamper
- Purrloin
- Hoothoot
Further on, you will meet your first Trainer.
Next to the large sign, you'll find:
- 2 Potions
On the right-hand path:
- 3 Poké Balls
Then there are two more Trainers to beat:
Just before the Laboratory, to the right of the high grass to find:
- a Repel
In the lake next to the Laboratory, you can fish:
- Magikarp
Head behind the Laboratory to find:
- TM57 Retaliate
And if you go to the far left of the Laboratory, behind the plantations, you will find:
- a Super Ball
- a Fresh Water (in the jar)
You now meet Professor Magnolia. For Leon to recommend you for the Gym Challenge, you will have to prove your strength. Time for another Rival battle with Hop!
Following this fight, Leon will give you the Recommendation Letter.
Both you and Hop will see a kind of shooting star in the sky granting you a Wishing Star. This is a gem with mysterious powers to make your wish come true.
In reality, it is a gem the Professor will use to facilitate Dynamax transformations. She gives you both a Dynamax Band.
On leaving the Laboratory, Hop teaches us two important techniques:
- By moving very slowly through tall grass, we can prevent Pokémon from attacking us,
- On the other hand, by whistling, you can attract a whole bunch of Pokémon — just press down on your Left Stick
Head back to Wedgehurst Station. Hop will challenge you to a Pokémon catching contest between the Laboratory and the Station, but even if you arrive with zero creatures captured, you will still get:
- TM40 Swift
