We had already told you about version 1.2 of Genshin Impact through our summary of the Chinese livestream that you can find here, but this time, it's via the official website that we have some details on certain elements constituting this update.
The new region: Dragonspine
As we told you before, it will plunge you into a freezing climate.
The icy climate of the Dragonspine area
In the Dragonspine area, the cold reigns and will not give you a break. With this climate in place, your characters will experience the "Sheer Cold" effect continuously. Once your cold gauge reaches its maximum, you will lose health at regular intervals.
Your cold gauge may increase faster if you swim in icy water or during snowstorms. It will therefore be necessary to pay attention to that.
Mechanisms cause special effects on nearby monsters.
How to stay warm
It's pretty basic but here are the different ways to warm up
- Bonfires
- Ruins braziers
- Teleportation points
- Statues of the Seven
- Warming Seelie
Special food
With the arrival of the Big Cold, a new type of dish reducing its effect on your characters is born.
- Goulash: recipe obtained by doing the quest "Ah, Fresh Meat!"
New gadget
The Warming Bottle will allow you to withstand the cold and it's by making offerings to the Frostbearing Tree that you can obtain the blueprint to craft it. You will need to reach offering level 4 to get it.

Scarlet Quartz
We continue the details on some elements of this update with the Scarlet Quartz. These are the famous red crystals that were shown in the livestream.
A Scarlet Quartz is a mysterious stone that can only be found in the Dragonspine region, which allows you to resist the Sheer Cold and therefore stop the latter's progress while the effect is active.
You will also find peculiar ice that can be destroyed under two conditions:
- Either by the Pyro element
- Either by a basic attack, under the effect of Scarlet Quartz
The Frostbearing Tree
It's a tree that has watched over the Dragonspine area since time immemorial and to which it will be necessary to offer Crimson Agate to increase the level of the latter's offering. You will be able to obtain Acquaint Fate, Intertwined Fate, a wind glider, as well as Gadget blueprints.
Frostbearing Tree Rewards
- Offering Level 9: "Permafrost - Ancient Tree" and "Crimson Desire" theme which allows you to do five added quests every Monday and Friday giving you Crimson Agates. Once the Tree is permafrosted to the maximum offering level, these quests will no longer be available.
- Offering Level 10: 4-Star Catalyst Blueprint "Frostbearer"
- Offering Level 12: Wings of Concealing Snow
New Domain: Peak of Vindagnyr
To unlock this dungeon, you will need to complete the quest "In the Mountains" beforehand. The particularity of this dungeon is that it will put you to the test in the face of the Cold Weather.
As for rewards, you'll find Blizzard Strayer and Heart of Depth set artifacts.
New Event: The Chalk Prince and the Dragon
We also told you about it in our article on the Chinese livestream, but the event allows you to obtain a 4-star weapon called Festering Desire. That's not all, since some quests will unlock additional effects for this weapon. The weapon will give bonuses in the Dragonspine region, as was specified in the livestream. It will be possible to continue farming the event once the quests have been completed by using the original resin to collect rewards to be exchanged in the event store.
Genshin Impact version 1.2 was revealed in particular via a Chinese livestream in which we were able to get a lot of information on what to expect in the Dragonspine region.
