Square Enix Introduces FFXIV x Twitch Collaborative Campaign

There are a few mounts and items that can only be obtained during events in Final Fantasy XIV and the Fat black Chocobo is one of those. This mount had already been introduced back in the day, and now returns for a new event.

This time Square Enix joined forces with Twitch to offer this mount to players. The event started yesterday and will last until August 24 so don’t worry about the timing — you have plenty of time.

The event is quite simple: Square Enix chose a very limited pool of streamers, already sponsored by the game or not, and activated drops on there channel if people pay subscriptions.

From yesterday on, any player that pays for four subs on one of the selected channels will be offered the exclusive event mount.

There are two rewards for this event:

  • For one gifted sub players will get one hundred Deluxe Heavenscracker
  • For four gifted subs players will get the Fat Black Chocobo Whistle

The event, however, has been really poorly received by the community — which you’ll quickly understand by reading the announcement’s answers. The community massively answered the tweet on both English and French Twitter with angry comments on how the selection had been managed by Square Enix.

Many players felt like they were forced to pay streamers they don’t usually watch or don’t like while many of their favorite streamers were not on the list. On the French side, most of the selected streamers had already been paid by Square Enix to play the game and a part of the community felt like they were not the best choices as many other streamers are more active on the game even outside of sponsored streams.

So far Square Enix did not share anything more than the announcement and it remains to see if they decide to adjust the promotion.
