Hot on the heels of their announcement of the new European Circuit, Nintendo have revealed a North American event that will send four victors to one of the biggest Smash tournaments Stateside — The Big House 9.
The best-of-three, no-item tournament will take place on September 21, and has a rather interesting format.
Players will aim to play as much as possible between 9am and 1pm PT, with the top 32 players advancing to a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket.
Competitors will be judged on two criteria: firstly, having played at least eight matches within the time frame, and secondly, a win-loss differential.
Ties in differential will be decided by whomever has the most games played. If this is equal, it moves to number of wins, then fewest losses, and finally a single-game playoff will be used to decide who progresses.
Unlike some Nintendo-sanctioned tournaments, the ruleset appears to be very similar to that used in typical Smash events such as Evo 2019. You can find the full ruleset here.
Registration is now open and players from the USA, Canada and Mexico can participate.
