Historically, the multiplayer of FromSoftware games has always suffered from many problems and exploits on PC, to the point of pushing the community to develop protection mods against this kind of threats, such as BlueSentinel. A few weeks before the launch of Elden Ring, Bandai Namco had to shut down the online mode of all of the studio's games on Steam following a report of an exploit that allows the hacker to take control of another player's PC at distance. Their multiplayer isn't back yet, as their efforts were focused on securing Elden Ring's multiplayer, to prevent such a problem from happening, and they probably still are.

Infinite Drop and Loop Death Hack on PC

Unfortunately, this seems to be a waste of time, since despite the presence of Easy-anti-cheat, hackers have found a flaw to exploit. The hack occurs during a multiplayer invasion , the invader will use a technique that will crash your game, and will alter your save. By restarting the game, your character has been teleported to a special area which causes his death on a loop. The biggest problem is that your character always respawns in the same area, each time causing his death, without offering the possibility of escape in appearance. In the state, the character is unusable and seems lost. Fortunately, there are solutions, both preventive and after being hacked.

How to protect yourself from the multiplayer hack

The best solution is prevention, as with the Covid, here are the measures to take, in order of effectiveness:

  • Console players are not affected, so there is no need to worry.
  • Don't play in co-op mode , and don't use multiplayer items that can trigger an invasion (Duel Sign, Scoffer's Tongue). You can also play in offline mode , if you don't want to see the white messages or the bloodstains on the ground.
  • If you really want to play cooperatively or do PvP, regularly make a copy of your saves in another folder. By default, you can find them at: " C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\EldenRing "

What to do if you have been hacked?

If you've ever fallen victim to this hack and are looking for how to get your character back, Draiganedig has shared a solution on Reddit. It is effective, but requires a little practice to use.

  • When the game loads your game, you have a moment before your character dies. You have to press the key combination Alt + F4 to close the game . This manipulation will give you a little more time the next time you load the game. It is important to do Alt+F4 before your character dies.
  • When you load the game again, open the map as quickly as possible with the associated key or button . Then press the button to display the list of sites from which to teleport, the shortcut is Triangle with a PS5 controller, Y with an Xbox controller . Press the confirmation key ( X on PS5, A on Xbox ) as quickly as possible to teleport to the first available destination.

By being quick enough, you will end up at a site of grace, safe and sound. Now all you have to do is back up cleanly and then apply the preventative measures above. Making a backup of your saves is a good idea if the hack gets even worse later on.
