Blizzard recently announced the grand return of Conquest Points and PvP Sellers in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. What did the old system look like? What is the point of his reinstatement? Focus on the system that kept WoW PvP alive until it was removed.

WoW: Shadowlands PvP Currencies and PvP Vendors

Removed during the release of Legion Patch 7.0.3 , Conquest Points and PvP Vendors are back with World of Warcraft: Shadowlands!

Conquest Points had been reintroduced in Battle for Azeroth but had not been appreciated because they didn't allow you to choose the equipment obtained. It was a very anecdotal counterfeit currency source of much debate .

What we know

For the moment, and while awaiting the deployment of the Shadowlands Alpha during the week of April 06, here is what we know about the return of Conquest Points and PvP Vendors:

  • Conquest Points will allow you to directly purchase equipment, instead of a weekly bar to fill in exchange for a predefined piece
  • The PvP equipment vendor will be at Oribos, neutral capital of Shadowlands
  • The Conquest Points can be used to improve the PvP equipment, in the same way that the Benthic Armor from Rise of Azshara

Conquest Points

Until they were removed in Patch 7.0.3, Conquest Points worked very differently. They were the equivalent of Valor Points in PvE and represented the high-level currency of PvP players, in contrast to Honor Points which allowed to buy equipment of lower level.

The more you had a high rating in a particular bracket (2v2, 3v3, 5v5 or RBG), the more you had the possibility of obtaining Conquest Points each week:

  • 180 points per arena match won
  • 400 per battlefield rated side won
  • Up to 200 per lost side battlefield (depending on final score)
  • 150 per random battlefield won per day
  • 75 points per battlefield won beyond the first
  • 50 points for completing all of the Isle of Thunder PvP daily quests

The amount of Conquest Points obtainable each week varied, as indicated above, depending on your rating:

In addition to these limitations, an additional limitation was available on certain parts. It was compulsory to have obtained at least approximately 8000 Points of Conquest during the current season to be able to buy a weapon.

You will no doubt realize that this system rewarded very high-level players by allowing them to access not only powerful weapons but also high-quality equipment very quickly. On the other hand, it hardly penalized more casual players since they sooner or later managed to have the full Conquest equipment ... except for weapons.

Why bring this system back?

The question deserves to be asked: if this system has been removed it is because it was not suitable for players — and yet. Although the more casual players blamed Blizzard for not having access to the more powerful weapons, which led the developers to withdraw the need to have 2,200 rating in order to access them, this system was probably one of the most popular in World of Warcraft.

It had his flaws, but overall, it allowed players to equip themselves as they see fit without too many limits and above all to work effectively to obtain better equipment. Better: it allowed PvP-only players to be very good in this game mode without having to do high-level PvE (or almost).

In fact, this system encouraged players to do PvP to be good in PvP, where the system that has been around since Legion forces players to do PvE in the first place in order to be viable in PvP. The latter mode has become a secondary hobby.

World of Warcraft

The return of Conquest Points and PvP Vendors seems to be in line with the objectives of Blizzard regarding the future of the game: to give more possibilities in the choices accessible to players, to let them be masters of their destiny, of equipment they wear and the way they farm it.

The idea delights many PvP players of course, but we haven't gotten our hands on this "new" system yet, so it may not be exactly as it was before ... And these differences can be very positive as well as very negative!

Does the return of this system also announce the upcoming comeback of Honor Points? We will know more by the end of the week!

WoW: The Alpha of Shadowlands will be available this week!

After months of waiting, D-Day has finally arrived: the Alpha of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will be officially open during the week of April 06, 2020. Check out what will be available!
